MyTEL Launches WiMAX Services in Peshawar

Another Wimax operator is in the market and it has its commercial launch in recent past. The company name is MyTEL. I came to know about this from PTA’s website which said…

At present M/s Wateen Telecom, an international telecom player is offering commercial WiMax services in most parts of the country. Mytel, a local operator in Peshawar, has also launched its commercial operation of WiMax in Peshawar.

On the same front, other Wireless Local Loop operators including Burraq, PTCL, Z-WLL and Cyber Internet are busy in the deployment of WiMax networks. All of these operators are in their testing phase and will soon be able to offer commercial WiMax services in the country.

Investigated further and i got their number . I called on them and they said that they got license for Peshawar, Mardan, Charsada, Swat region. They said that they got 2-3 corporate customers but their domestic launch may come in September 2009.

Upon investigating over the net, i come to know that this little firm is around since 2006 and its trying to deploy its system there. They have chosen Redline Communications for their Wimax services. Here is the press release.

Redline Communications, a leading provider of standards-based broadband wireless equipment, today announced that, MyTel, the licensed WLL operator in Pakistan for the Northern Telecom Region, will deploy the first WiMAX network in Northern Pakistan using Redline’s WiMAX Forum Certified™ RedMAX products. The network will deliver advanced voice and broadband services throughout MyTel’s region, which serves millions of residents, businesses and government entities.MyTel has began its RedMAX deployment in the city of Peshawar, and will expand its WiMAX network to an additional thirteen regions in northern Pakistan.  The network will improve the delivery of voice and broadband services to its existing customers and extend its network to reach more businesses, residents and municipal organizations.

“By joining the ranks of leading telecommunications companies that are choosing Redline’s RedMAX products to roll out WiMAX services, MyTel is clearly demonstrating its commitment to meeting the communications requirements of its vast customer base,” said Dino Bakakis, Redline’s Managing Director for the Middle East. “With our RedPATH architecture roadmap, MyTel can leverage its RedMAX investment to deliver the services its customers need today and evolve to introduce new WiMAX technologies and devices over time.”

Verso with regional partner Al-Futtaim Technologies and local partner Northtech have been selected by MyTel of Pakistan to provide the Verso MetroNet VoIP Overlay solution, including the Verso Back Office Solution, an integrated back office application that supports network administration, provisioning and billing, all riding over a WiMAX network infrastructure.

“The MetroNet VoIP Overlay can be customized to match the size of a growing subscriber base. As network usage grows, the solution can easily be scaled to ensure full functionality at all times,” said Yves Desmet, senior vice president of Worldwide Sales, Verso Technologies. “It is an ideal solution for a growing company such as MyTel in the emerging Pakistani market. WiMAX promises to be an economical solution to fill the network gap here and around the world. As the WiMAX market grows, Verso will be there with next generation network enabling technology to help meet the needs of this new marketplace.”

I hope that other operators will also look forward to North Region and will bring technology to the doorsteps.
