Nokia N8 Unboxing [Pakistan]

We know that Nokia has unveiled its latest smartphone the N8 in Pakistan and is the first smartphone which bears the Symbian^3 OS.

Although the Nokia N8 is not available in Pakistan for purchase yet, but thanks to ProPakistani friends we just got our hands on the N8!

Here’s a complete unboxing of the N8 and a walkthrough of the accessories that come with it.

The Box

The N8’s box is really different from any other Nokia phone’s packaging, this time Nokia chose not to have color graphics on the packaging rather an illustration of the phone instead. We were kinda excited to be the first ones to get our hands on the N8 ahead of it officially hitting the shelves.

The Nokia N8 Itself

Opening the box, we reveal the phone first. The phone feels solid in hand and is made entirely of anodized aluminum. Behind the phone is a 12 Megapixel camera which is capable of recording 720P HD videos, we will cover the camera in a separate post.

        • Mohsin bro. I want to ask a question, that i have lost my Nokia 6600 Slide from my office, can it be checked that with which number it is using now a days. or can it be blocked?? Plz reply me in some detail to help me…. THANKS

          • Irfan,
Yes this can be checked very easily provided that operator help you to do this.
i have no idea in pakistan how they do it.

  • I was waiting from months for n8 to be launched in pakistan nice review.Post some videos.

  • O bhaiio, uzair ghani sb isn’t aware of the fact that ufone in pakistan has launched this handset for just Rs. 41,900/- and they are selling it at a very large scale. :) so cheer up guys

    • Ufone is accepting only pre-orders, no one has got N8 so far.

moreover ufone is collecting 41,900 for N8 while this phone will be available at 37000 in just couple of weeks

  • alright uzair [ it kinda feels odd addresing you directly as you could be older than me xD ] i was waiting for such a post and have some questions hope you answer em :D

1- where did you get the phone , ufone or direct from nokia/mz/advance/u2 etc

2- how much did it cost you and what was the rate of the black one .

3- why are their scratches on the phone’s screen ? it’s supposed to be scratch-less gorilla glass screen or is there a screen protector on it ?

4-when did you get the phone ?

and some good news for you

it’s going to get a new browser, it’s getting a new home screen the screen actually appears to be moving when you swipe it. and nokia wont be talking about s^4 anymore it would just be symbian and s^3 will get all updates to what was previously supposed to be s^4

hope you enjoy the n8 :S i was going to buy it but im gonna save up for the meego based n9 :D

  • The N8 in the pics above looks dead ugly.
Choice of network (zong) reflects on why buyer’s choice of color was as ugly as yellow :p

And who in their right mind would want to wind-up spending that much money when you have WAY BETTER options like the Dell Streak, Samsung Galaxy S series just to name a few.

Moreover it’s simply preposterous to even compare an Android OS with Symbian.

    kahan Android kahan Symbian.

And pls, ab koi yeh childish comment na pass karday kay iska 12MP ka cam daikha hay :p
History has taught us all the rubbish Nokia can come up with in that department.

    • wait a second hammer man please dont be a troll :/

“History has taught us all the rubbish Nokia can come up with in that department.”

c’mman dude! nokia has always been the best at making wordclass camera phones

      “kahan Android kahan Symbian.”

i’ve heard this one alot of times at many diffrent forums , where exactly is symbian behind android ? name the areas ! actually symbian is way more advanced and less power hungry than android symbian has way more features that android lacks or took from symbian itself . the only thing lacking in symbian is the browser – which is being built from base up in qt , and the ui which is also being built up against using qt , these updates WILL BE given to the n8 and other s^3 devices ! :) cheers mate and dont troll , you are one of the “thinking” commenters of porpakistani

      • lol! seems like I stepped on someone’s tail

Dear I’ll give you an example. Remember the hype of N95 with it’s 5MP camera back in the days?
Compare it any day with any Sony Ericsson that has a 5MP and you’ll understand why N95’s was simply what?
        Rubbish :)

let me reiterate, I’m not saying Nokia’s cameras can’t take pics at all.. ofcourse they can, but even cheap Chinese sets can take pics :)

It’s just that you ought to know it darn right well that SE’s cams are way better than Nokia’s..

and as far as Android vs Shame-bian is concerned.

There’s a lot more to it than you think.
Remember in mid 2008 when Nokia bought out the remaining 52% of Symbian shares for about 400mil USDs and made made symbian open source.
+ in late 2007, Nokia had also bought Navtech(Nokia’s ovi maps maker) for about 8.1 Billion US dollars.

Nokia bought a lot of other properties like the prominent example of Navtech above and also invested heavily in marketing and resources to promote Ovi.
Nokia simply can’t afford to go Android (which many cell makers are moving towards) as Nokia would only lose further market share which it already has been drastically since the past few years.

Why do you think Nokia introduced it’s own Linux kernel based OS (Maemo) rather than opting for Android which is also a Linux based OS :P

        Who’s ur daddy shame-bian? :P

        [Comment Edited]

        • my comment above has been edited :(

urdu word for tail is missing and the dear has been replaced with darling

it’s just an affectionate form of addressing someone.
          sigh…

        • alright here i go , first of all did you not get what i said ?

          you said:
“let me reiterate, I’m not saying Nokia’s cameras can’t take pics at all.. ofcourse they can, but even cheap Chinese sets can take pics :)”

i never said that nokia phones just take pics i specifiacally said

“nokia has always been the best at making wordclass camera phones”

“Compare it any day with any Sony Ericsson that has a 5MP”

first of all you have to consider when n95 was made . bring anyother sony or sony ericsion or ericsion phone that was made in the same year, you may rarely find better quality then the n95.

          you said :
“It’s just that you ought to know it darn right well that SE’s cams are way better than Nokia’s..”

no they are not , prove your statement sir

and since you apparently are a fandroid it’s symbian ;)

“There’s a lot more to it than you think.
Remember in mid 2008 when Nokia bought out the remaining 52% of Symbian shares for about 400mil USDs and made made symbian open source.

they did , they also recently bought troll tech[the guys who made qt] and all of them were very good deals as for as nokia is concerned

“Nokia simply can’t afford to go Android (which many cell makers are moving towards) as Nokia would only lose further market share which it already has been drastically since the past few years.”

where in my comment did i say nokia needs to go android ? hell that wouldnt ever happen nor needs to happen symbian is good enough to compete with android ios or hp’s web os.

“Why do you think Nokia introduced it’s own Linux kernel based OS (Maemo) rather than opting for Android which is also a Linux based OS :P”

android a linux based os ? dont make me laugh it’s basically a vm ontop of a linux kernel

as far as your question regarding maeemo and now meego. there are actually quite some reasons for that.

1- android/ios/symbian all have a limit a limit of any smartphone , meego aims to cross that boundry and bring a mobile computer into the hand of the consumer.
2- there is a lot of negativity towards symbian esspetially in the us blogo/media sphere the negativity is effecting nokia .nokia tried alot but ill agree right now the symbians ui sucks . apparently fandroid and itrolls are the major players in the us so symbian ;because of its poor ui ; has been just quite simply removed from that possibility that it could make a good phone , where as it is good actually better than many others. this ultra denial and negativity has caused nokia to not ever have any share in the us market .

still nokia has decided that symbian will not be used on any high end devices of the company , instead meego will be used . which is far beyond where symbian/android/ios stand . this will be a big boost to nokia and will help them regain there market share . symbian will continued to be used on mid range phones and will continue to be the most used and most effective and most working and least power hungry os among the others :)

          • “nokia has always been the best at making wordclass camera phones”

            — lol which is why I’ve been saying again and
again that Nokia being “”THE BEST”” in the
cam business is utter rubbish and a hoax
fabricated by diehard nokia fans like
            yourself..
A modest claim like “it is ONE of the best”
            would be acceptable though.

nokia has decided that symbian will not be used on any high end devices of the company , instead meego will be used

            — exactly, shame-bian was not good enough to
compete and this gave birth to mamoo aka
            maemo :P

first of all you have to consider when n95 was made . bring any other sony or sony ericsion or ericsion phone that was made in the same year, you may rarely find better quality then the n95.

            — SE P1i was made in the same year *winks*

where in my comment did i say nokia needs to go android ?

            — I never said you said that.

hell that wouldnt ever happen nor needs to happen symbian is good enough to compete with android ios or hp’s web os.

—Oh really? if shame-bian was really that great
like the way you’ve been crying out loud all
day, then why did Nokia come up with a new OS?
A highlight of your own comments sheds clarity.

“”nokia has decided that symbian will not be used on any high end devices of the company , instead meego will be used””

            — Don’t get me wrong love. Shame-bian has had
it’s days of glory in the past and masses of
success. But that’s no longer the case
with the presence of operating systems like
Android, iOS and with the recent launch of
Win Phone 7 in the market.

symbian will continued to be used on mid range phones and will continue to be the most used and most effective and most working and least power hungry os among the others :)

            — zahir si baat hay Mehran mei Rolls Royce ka
engine tau naheen laga na ab. Comparison is
made using the best each has to offer.
Nokia itself has abandoned Shame-bian for a
new OS for those cell phones which will be
considered Nokia’s cream of the crop, like the
            N900.

ps: no they are not , prove your statement sir

            — Please call me Hamid.

            • Lol alright hamid i take that back :S

nokia is ONE of the best camera phone makers in the world :)

“exactly, shame-bian was not good enough to
compete and this gave birth to mamoo aka
              maemo :P”

that’s not the only point symbian already has evolved to a state where it can stand its ground against android or ios or webos . nokia want to win it , and kick any chance of any other os competing with them for some time by bringing meego.

i personally believe that there is a level for a “smart phone ” symbian can and will soon perfectly reach that level to an extent that it will be easily be able to hold it’s own ground against ios and android. but meego is nokia’s trump card . that’s where nokia comes back as the market leader :)

  • OMG, does it really got 12 Megapixels camera. That would be awesome then. But one thing I dislike about nokia is they are good at increasing the camera specifications but don’t really work on picture quality, when viewed at 100% comes out real blurry. Reminds me of my N95-8G which had not given me what I had expected from its camera.

    • lol thank you. Just like I mentioned above.
Believe me, Sony Ericsson’s P1i with a 3.15MP cam could take better shots than N95’s 5 MP camera :)

  • Hey guys this is Waqas from Ufone, well just to update you all, Ufone was offering N8 before its official launch at a discounted price of Rs41,900 plus a kit of accessories approx Rs600 was also being offered with included car charger, holster etc. Also being a Ufone customer 6 months free unlimited GPRS was being offered in this package. However since nokia has officially launched it now so we are no more offering this set and only the handsets which were already booked in advance are being delivered now.

  • This phone looks uglier in this review although I saw the same first look on wccftech which is actually making this phone look good. Overall I think Nokia still has a long way to go before it can actually start coming back to the level apple and google has set for mobile OS

  • this is a ridiculous unboxing! you guys need to make a video.Honestly there are like 10 pictures of the blue box from every angle.what was the point of that I wonder.
