Through a public notice in newspapers, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has warned marketers to not to send unconsented, unwanted, fraudulent, misleading, SPAM and/or illegal text messages or calls to mobile phone consumers.
PTA said that those who will not stop doing so may face legal consequences according to the law.
In the same notice, PTA has asked consumers to report any such SPAM message/call to PTA.
How to Report SPAM/Unwanted SMS/Calls?
If you get any SPAM message or call that you never subscribed, or any call/SMS that you don’t want to get again – then SMS following details to 9000
- Sender’s cell number
- Your cell number
- Any details that you may want to add
Send this information to 9000 – and leave the rest for PTA.
Note: Charges for sending an SMS to 9000 are 10 paisas (including tax).

Indeed a great initiative. But again, one more scheme to loot the public by adding 10p charges to it. Not good at all. Any such service should be free. We are already paying more than enough taxes. Aren’t we??

That said, just because you find spam interesting, why should the rest of us suffer? I receive dozens of messages from new numbers every day. If you know of another way to block this, by all means, share it.

I dont care either marketining companies are paying or not… but no one has the right to drop me a SMS with out my consent. It is very simple to understand if one wants to that your mobile number is for your personal needs & it is registered in your name and you have a circle of friends & family with whom you call & SMS as & when needed. How would you react if some one obtain your number with out permission & start sending you messages which are not needed at all.
Independence has limits by all means, independence doesn’t mean that you get the right to do what ever you want & cause trouble for others because you are independent. On other hand, we as mobile phone users are also Independent & we need not to be disturbed as it causes interference in our independence. Wish you understand what i & many other people are trying to say.
Lastly, search Google for SMS Marketing, laws & penalties. You will be surprised that individuals & companies have faced tough court decisions favouring consumers (SMS recipients. And there are Laws in place as well, protecting rights of consumers.

It don’t think so that it will workout. Instead of trying to fix this issue in users side it would be better to handle this on provider part. Maybe PTA should enforce providers to put some sort of limit on messages sent within given time span. If they detect abusive usage of connection they should block the number or take action asked by PTA. You can’t really hunt for spammers there could be millions of them but what you know is that there are few providers. Every spammer has to go through some provider. So if they really want to sort this out they should be going this easy and doable route other wise this is just another stupid talk.

I am a foreigner living in Lahore and these nuisance calls and sms have been ever disturbing. I had to change 4 phone numbers of my wife due to unethical calls from so called Muslim brothers. If this work well and proper actions will be taken by PTA, it would be great for people like us who like to maintain our privacy. Lets hope it goes well.
What is the definition of Spam in this law? Is it ambiguous just like the cyber crime laws introduced two or three years ago? And why are they charging for it? This should be free service.

My dear, you are just defending the unjustified SMS & Calls from so-called small business houses. If they are serious, they must get permission from Recipient, it is against ethics & religion to disturb people at odd times & without permission. Would you be happy if i knock your door at 1 am and ask if your bathroom floor is leaking or do u want repair service for your car or do u want to sell or rent your house??? you will not like this at all.

In last 4 months i have received 450+ such SMS, all of them selling something i dont need, like PTCL EVO, Bulk SMS software, bathroom repair, car service/repair, property etc etc.
Mobile phone companies offering bulk SMS @ 01 paisa per SMS are the actual cause of this trouble.
PTA should instruct mobile phone companies to stop bulk SMS packages at once.

Trouble is that will PTA be able to follow-up with all these spammers? The senders of these messages will simply change the SIM. Not sure if the guilty parties will be taken to task or not. This should be the responsibility of the TELECOM service providers and PTA should be monitoring the deviations of prescribed laws and guidelines only.
Tracking the spammer is not a issue as each SIM/number is issued against CNIC number. According to standard law followed by each Mobile operator, one CNIC can have max 4 SIMs issued from the same company. I am not sure either this is in practice at present or not.
On the other had, even if you forward the spammer’s number there is no confirmation or receipt issued from PTA.
The sad part is that Bulk SMS is banned all over the world & in case if someone wants to get in this practice he/she has to obtain permission from the Recipient (you & I) which is absolutely not followed in Pakistan. You can but the software in Rs. 500/- with a user database of 2 million numbers & start your journey towards causing trouble for others…unfortunately.

In your case, the procedure is very lengthy & annoying. You will have to visit the office of mobile phone operator with a written complaint. Before doing that you will have to ensure that these numbers must appear in your Incoming call log, if that is not available, your complaint may not remain valid.
Secondly, there is a possibility that these numbers are ported out!!!!! e.g. the mobile number 03068254365 is issued from Mobilink, but there is a possibility that it is ported out to Warid or Zong, in that case you will have to run to Warid or Zong……
In nutshell, if you want to do any thing illegal, there is no binding on the culprit, but if you want to follow the law & ask for your right, you will be given toughest resistance.

My dear Mobile Operators offer huge discounted SMS packages, you can send 500 SMS in just Rs. 30/-.
They call it SMS marketing, which is absolutely illegal & unethical. But people & mobile operators hardly care about it.

I receive a flood of unwanted marketing sms on daily basis. Its a crap. I request PTA to stop these kind of sms marketing services and bulk sms sending softwares and take necessary legal action against it.
agar koi number aap ko call kar k baar baar tang karta hai n ajeeb ajeeb messages bhejta hai k frndship karlo wagera wagera then can pta take action on it

What about official carrier spam sms and calls ? I use warid and they send 10 stupid sms daily and no one can stop them. Its sad.

PTA SHOULD ALSO LOOK INTO FRAUD OF CELLULAR COMPANIES:::: BE WARE ! This is information for all warid would-be customers or the
ones who want to move to warid postpaid from prepaid THAT they are
charging DOUBLE LINE RENT if you subscribe their services like bundle
sms, bundle internet etc. WITHOUT mentioning this amount in their
brochure, website, or different forums run by them. This is clear fraud
by warid on which PTA is keeping QUIET surely for reason that they are
PARTNERS in this crime. I realized it when I became their prey after
moving to warid postpaid.
I just sent a complaint to 9000 but got an SMS from Ufone Helpline “Dear Customer this is an invalid command. please resend message on 9000 to record your request”
What is that? can anybody explain
