Cabinet Division Yet Again Advertises the Jobs for PTA Members

Government of Pakistan, through Cabinet Division, has advertised the job vacancies for three PTA members for the third time during the span of five months.

In its latest advertisement, Cabinet Division said that it is looking for three PTA members, i.e. Member Finance, Member Technical and Member Compliance and Enforcement for Pakistan Telecommunication Authority.

As before, the job term for all the members will be four years.

It merits mentioning here that Cabinet Division first advertised the jobs for Member Finance and Member Technical on on 29 January 2013. But just one day after the last date for applying, i.e., 14 February 2013, a new advertisement altering the qualifications, age and experience requirements was issued in order to accommodate favourites and blue eyed of the Government.

This alteration in job requirements were then challenged in Islamabad High Court in a petition filled by Wahaj us Siraj, CEO of Nayatel and Convener ISP Association of Pakistan (ISPAK).

Now Cabinet Division has again advertised the jobs by maintaining the requirements based on its first advertisement. However, the job ad says, applicants who had applied for similar slots based on previous advertisements should apply afresh.

It merits mentioning here that PTA is entirely dysfunctional as its Chairman Mr. Farooq Awan was dismissed by the Lahore High Court (LHC) on 15 January 2013 on conflicts of interests and violation of Telecom Act, 1996. While Member Finance, Nasrul Karim Ghaznavi completed his term on 24 February whereas Member Technical, Dr. Khawar Siddique Khokhar got retired from his position on March 16th 2013.

In a related news, as per market rumours, Mr. Umar Saif – a close friends of Sharif brothers – is reportedly named for the Chairmanship of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority. However, no official words have been spoken on this so far.
