Ufone recently concluded the second spell of its Summer Internship Programme (SIP) by organizing a Recognition and Graduation Ceremony 2013 in Islamabad.

The internship that continued for a period of 6-8 weeks; has provided the opportunity to around 84 students from major universities in North, Central and South – cities including Islamabad, Swabi, Lahore, and Karachi.

This year Ufone ran a series of campus drives throughout the country covering top 20 universities whereby the campus drive entailed online assessment and interviews for selection of quality candidates.

Ufone did not only treat this event as the conclusion of SIP 2013 but also as the initiation of SIP 2014. A good majority of the key stakeholders including faculty members of NUST (NBS, EME, SEECS), Bahria, QAU, CASE, FAST and Szabist have attended the event. Ufone HR team exchanged views and feedback with them for improving the strategy for SIP 2014.

Speaking at the occasion, Moqeem Ul Haque, Chief Strategy Officer, Ufone said “The Summer Internship Program is all about identifying and nurturing talent by providing them the opportunity to ‘Take a SIP of the future’. Ufone is not only about hiring the toppers; we believe in hiring well-rounded resources who have not only excelled at their studies but are in congruence with the core values of Ufone.”

“Such events help bridge the gap between the academia and industry, proving a platform for the students to excel through the mentoring of trained professionals”, said Rear Admiral Saleem Akhtar HI (M), Bahria University Pro – Rector/DG Islamabad Campus.

On exchanging his views about the Ufone SIP, Muhammad Sami Saddiq from NBS stated, “My primary goal consisted of the pursuit of continuous improvement and the desire to strive for excellence. I believe that Ufone is an exceedingly reputable organization and getting to work with a world class company like Ufone will be a huge benefit to me when applying for jobs. I don’t think I would have had better exposure anywhere else.”

Many of the students had actually proved that they really are capable enough to work in a modest environment. A few names to be mentioned are Muhammad Sami Siddiq from NBS, Saadia Qamar from SEECS, Mehwish Ehsan from QAU, Maria Qadir from CASE, Ammama Furrukh Gill from Nust EME, Zainab Khan from NBS and Zara Nasim Pirzada from IoBM.

Best interns from each department were awarded certificates, shields, giveaways which also included latest handset with a personalized postpaid number. The rest of the interns received certificates and giveaways to admire their contributions. The faculty was also acknowledged by presenting shields and giveaways. HR at Ufone has worked extensively to setup an entire system of intern management, along with identifying any high potential students that may be considered for future roles within the Organization.
