Urdu Gets Recognized as an Official Language on Facebook

Facebook has finally included Urdu as its officially supported languages for the users, after which Facebook users can now officially set Urdu as their language on the portal.

This was achieved after Facebook Translation team concluded the translation of all modules of the website into Urdu. For the purpose, general users also contributed towards the cause and finally Urdu was recognized as an official language.

Users can set Urdu as their primary language by following these steps:

  • Go to home page of Facebook.com, below the ads (on the right side) there’s English(US) selected as your primary language, click on it.
  • On Next page, click on Urdu to set Urdu as your primary language,
  • That’s it.

    • Still, localization for an International system is integral for its life cycle to exist.
Also not everyone uses Windows; Developers still live in this world :P

    • Windows urdu display language pack or urdu keyboard is different from a translation of a website. The picture you have shown is of switching the windows keyboard entry language to urdu it does not effect facebook or any other website.

    • iMFB is simply a php script, available for everyone on internet. its PHPFox, if i guessed right, so it depends on original developer.

    • Millat Facebook is developed and run by selfish opportunists who are selling Islam. So, it’s better to ban it & stop using it. Let me tell you some facts. Millat Facebook was launched in retaliation for Facebook’s “Draw Muhammad Day”. MIllat Facebook thought of using a PHP script PHPFox to develop “Hilal” version of Facebook. PHPFox is headquartered in Sweden (PHPFox is part of Benc Enterprises Eftr AB, that is a privately held company registered in Sweden). Lars Vilks, the person who started this controversy of cartoons about Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) belongs to Sweden. Others (including Facebook) only followed what he started. Just Google his name.

      • This is the dumbest most rediculous reasoning I have ever seen.

So tell me, should we stop using PHP because the developers are Israeli Jews? Should we stop using WordPress because the core team is in the US and the US government drones us? Should we stop using .com .net .org addresses or even hosting outside Pakistan because their business and government interests are against Pakistan?

For that matter, should we stop using IP addresses because in Pakistan we get them through APNIC headquartered in Australia???

GET A BRAIN. Just because Lars is a Swedish citizen doesn’t mean he had anything to do with PHPFox. If he is not related to PHPFox, THEN WHO CARES????

Should I next boycott Karachi products because MQM lives there??? GET A BRAIN.

        • Hahaha. Why don’t you try giving the same lecture to Millat Facebook with one addition that “Should we boycott Facebook just because a Facebook user started ‘Draw Muhammad Day’ event?” I didn’t ask for banning/unbanning anything but Millat Facebook & their supporters like you did. They asked to stop using Facebook and instead use their “Islamic” social networking, that will provide Shariah-compliant dating & flirting too ;) MFB tried to use religion for monetary gains in the same way Amrat Cola, Mecca Cola, Kaaba Cola etc did but it’s only a short-term gain.

  • Urdu should make it easier instead of difficult. There could have been a simple replacement of ‘Tajdeed Kafiat’.
