Confirmed: Ufone, Mobilink, Telenor and Zong Submit Sealed Bids for 3G / 4G Licenses

As we reported earlier today, its confirmed now that four local operators – namely Mobilink, Telenor Pakistan, Ufone and Zong (China Mobile Pakistan) – today submitted sealed bids for the auction of 3G / 4G licenses, confirmed a statement issued by Pakistan Telecommunication Authority.

Statement said that authority received four bids for spectrum auction for Next Generation Mobile Services in Pakistan till the deadline of April 14, 2014, 4:00 pm as per the details, procedure, requirements and criteria laid down in the Information Memorandum (IM).

Check below pictures of four telecom operators submitting their sealed bids at PTA headquarters in Islamabad:

PTA confirmed that Warid did not participate.

After evaluation of bids PTA will announce the qualified bidders on April 17, 2014.

It is still unclear that what kind and type of spectrum (3G or 4G) the operators have requested. However, PTA’s statement revealed that demand for spectrum is more than the supply and hence spectrum will be sold through an auction process.

It may be added that, on December 19, 2013 PTA signed a formal contract with Value Partners Management Consulting Limited (VPMCL) for the provision of consultancy services for the auction of spectrum for next generation mobile services.

  • Being Warid customer, should i port in to another network? Or will warid compete for 4G license? I don’t know what seems to be their strategy… if they don’t invest they’ll become another InstaPhone

  • Oh! Warid is not participating…!!?? What is the reason behind that? Is Warid a poor company? or they have not enough money to buy a single licence even 5 Hz? Or they have less customer level as compared to other operators? :(

  • Mobilink, Telenor and Ufone have spent billions of $$$ for upgradation of their network and can’t go back where as Zong has done little, I think these BIG THREE will dominate into bidding process because of no chance for loosing it. For Warid customers, i already said that it was not possible to bid in current situation…

  • Bitter sweet day for my country. It is going to benefit from foreign exchange of $1Bn+ dollars but SAD TO SEE NOT ONE PAKISTANI OWNED OR MANAGED COMPANY.

What does this say about the PTA or the Government Leaders?

The foreignors will put in short term investment and then take it out 10 times over from the savings of our peoples.

It tears my heart to see not one Pakistani company.
(And no Ufone is owned and managed by Etisalat. Very soon GOP will sell all its PTCL shares)

  • I am a warid cutomer and I am quite satisfied with the services they offer. I don’t care whether they upgrade to 3G and 4G as long as they sustain their quality.

  • For all the people who are curious to know who’s bringing what … These major companies have participated for 3G/4G auction. The reason why Warid did not participate is because they’re bringing LTE in Pakistan. Warid is actually thinking ahead of these companies.

  • 3G is hour of need at this moment In Pakistan as it will bring some opprnunities too for th youth, latest technology advancement in this modern era… so guys dont worry , hope for the best wait for the great moment of launch of 3G technologies….

  • The reports from reuters is totally baseless.. even on base price, 3/4G will fetch more than 1.3B US$.. This will be a productive auction

  • all operators operators are participating except warid. means the auction is going to be on 23rd of this month…
