Data revenues of telecom companies in Pakistan increased 25% during FY2014, hinting that telecom operators in Pakistan are right on the track to gain momentum in the data market.
Total revenues from data services in Pakistan stood at Rs. 90 billion, registering a growth of 24.6%, which is more than double the growth of 11.66% during FY2013.
In particular, data revenues of cellular mobile segment have shown a growth of 47.4%, reaching Rs. 47 billion during FY2014. This is a healthy sign in the wake of 3G/4G services in the country and shows that the use of internet and data services on the cellular mobile has been increasing.
It is easy to assume that CMOs will also have more sustainable revenue streams in days to come.
Overall, the share of data revenues in total telecom revenues has increased to 19.3% during FY2014 compared to 16.4% last year.
Similarly, cellular data revenue share has also increased to 10.1% from 7.3%.
The data revenue trends are expected to take further momentum in coming years with an increasing use of smart phones, iPads and laptops in the society and an uptake of Over the Top (OTT) services, replacing traditional voice communication.
This whole situation also hints that mobile services (apps and mobile ready websites) are likely to be essential for businesses and portals in Pakistan during the days to come.
3G and 4G are only gonna help these figures. We are a data hungry country. Thanks to otherwise slow broadband, people will start relying more on their smartphones.
Interesting figures.If growth continues, data revenues from cellular companies may reach 80 billion to 90 billion in FY2015.
Why we r quite satisfy with these figures without focusing our targets of priority ? what we actually need on top priority is <> and EDUCATION. Not to keep on enjoying calls and SMS packages from cell companies. These seem small amounts but accumulates to millions of Rs per day, the situation is alarming.
