The popularity of first-person shooters among gaming enthusiasts remained firm as sales data indicated that “Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare” was the top-selling video game of 2014.
Sales were measured across all gaming platforms, including PS4, Xbox One and PC, with “Madden NFL 15” and “Destiny” in second and third place respectively. Total volume of sales was $13.1 billion, up from the 2013 total of $12.94 billion, or a 1% year-on-year rise.
Whilst sales figures for consoles weren’t revealed, analyst Liam Callahan said “after 14 months on the market, cumulative sales for PS4 and Xbox One exceed the Xbox 360 and PS3 cumulative total by 65 percent”, thereby confirming that demand for consoles continues rising. He also added that bundle offers of consoles and games were a major factor behind increasing sales.
In addition to being the top-selling game of 2014, “Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare” also topped the list in physical retail sales during the festive season, followed by “Grand Theft Auto V”.
