Android Lollipop is More Stable Than iOS 8: Report

There’s always something to like with each new iteration of an operating system, be it Android or iOS. However, bugs and crashes often spoil the fun and make one want to tear their hair out. Minor and major hiccups in each revised variant of Android have encouraged a plethora of complaints.

Of course, iOS fans haven’t missed the bandwagon, eager to mention how stable the iOS fares in comparison to Android. Interestingly, a report by Crittercism suggests that Android 5.0 Lollipop is more stable than iOS 8.

A mobile application performance management specialist has reported 0.2 percent lower crash rate on devices running Android compared to those running iOS 8. This reflects in the fact that Android 5.0 Lollipop registered a crash rate of 2 percent whereas iOS 8 recorded 2.2 percent.

Lollipop has a crash rate of 2% while iOS 8 has a crash rate of 2.2%

This may seem like a rather insignificant figure but if you consider the amount of Apple devices running the latest iOS 8, this amounts to a much greater number.

The report goes on to state that iOS 8 experiences a higher crash rate than what is witnessed on the iOS 7. The former records a crash rate of 2.2 percent while the latter is at a significant advantage with 1.9 percent.

Conversely, the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop has shown significant improvement in terms of stability over the older KitKat and Ice Cream Sandwich variants that have registered crash rates of 2.6 percent each.

Android Lollipop has shown significant improvements in stability and crash rates

Evidently, Android has strived to sort issues of instability with the new iteration whereas iOS users have had to put up with an increased rate of crashes with the latest iOS 8. This makes for quite an interesting observation factoring in the tighter control that Apple has over its rather ‘enclosed’ operating system.

Do note that the results may vary depending on the apps one uses to test this since crashes can be associated with issues exclusive to apps themselves or device-related problems like low memory.

  • The facts are baseless regarding lollipop because there are too less devices running new android os as compare to ios

      • I am an Android fan but I must say whenever I use my friend’s iPhone, it feels more stable and smooth. No lag whatsoever.

        • You got it wrong. Its hardware difference. That is built with greater quality of processor and Ram.

          • You got it wrong.Android flaghsips have more RAM and faster processors than iPhones do.It’s just the simpleton OS called iOS that makes iPhones seem fast

      • Wrong! I have the iPhone 6 and i dont have any battery problem with it. Sometimes it last one and half day. All depends on usage if i use 3G too much still it gives me one day without any problem. This was not the case with iPhone 5s

  • “Haven’t seen any crash on iOS more then Android Hangs and Crash problem, pretty sure this Report is made by a Fandroid.”

  • Android Ko iOS Se compare mat karien Android Android Hai Pakistan mein sub se zyada Android phone chalta hai

  • Mr. writer you really don’t know the issues in lollipop. I have nexus 5 and it sucks after lollipop update. Issues are reported with nexus 6 also. As the number rises the issues will raise to morethan 3 % for Android.

    • Huzoor Aamir Liaquat Hussain, writer sahab nay to siraf report share ki hai. Aap un par charhaai kyun kartay hain bhala?

      • yar ab kisi android blog say utha kay laga day to matlab theek hai.
main usay kahun ga jis nay lagai hai.or wese bhi koi source nhi dia hua

        • Your source is in there, figure it out:
“A mobile application performance management specialist (Crittercism) has reported 0.2 percent lower crash rate on devices running Android compared to those running iOS 8.”

            • Crittercism is a third-party service that applications use to automatically report bugs. They have zero incentive to tell lies about their statistics.

Your anecdote cannot stand up to real world data collected from millions of users.

              • Ab yeh Aamir Liaquat self acclaimed scholar, poet and whatnot! Software Engineer bhi ban gaya hai? Log ek iphone le ker aflatoon ban jatay hain!

  • WHO IN THE WORLD WROTE THIS BLATANT LIE. I simply cannot use an Apple product and had made the worst mistake ever upgrading to Lollsh1t 5.hE11 and then its newer l0llicr@p it was hell, i am a working professional and wasted 2 week ends trying to install a custom ROM and then reverting back to 4.4.

  • You are a “working professional”? As opposed to what? “Working ameture”? “Non-working professional”?

What a strange term, working professional.

  • Compressing so much technology in small devices is bound to cause problems, which is why I keep my I7 PC with 10TB space and my gragraphics card. It will take many years when phones will ever be able to compete with PCs

    • Ha ha, so funny!

And how much SPACE did 10TB of disk space take just ten years ago??? That has also shrunk in size! And your graphics card, tell me, ten years ago how many graphics cards = your current graphics card? Also due to technology shrink over time!

So tell us what shrinking components for PC have caused problems for you? If they have only made your life better & not caused problems, then why you think phones are any different?

  • Why don’t you wander off to a non-Pakistani site if Pakistan sucks? And you ‘cannot use apple’ and don’t like ‘android’ so i think you should stick to a Nokia 3310. It suits your ‘working professional’ needs.
I wonder what the word ‘working’ stands for in working professional, perhaps the same as it means in the term ‘working girl’.. No seriously, Google it!

  • Android ki Ram best hai but……Operating System ki Performance Slow hai……Isi tarhaaan Iphone ki performance agar achi hai to sirf IOS ki wajha se
