In April 2014, the Ministry of Information Technology successfully auctioned spectrum for 3G/4G services in Pakistan in the 1800MHz and 2100MHz bands. Since then, there has been a rapid uptake of 3G services, bringing significant benefits to consumers and the national economy, and providing huge growth potential for industry players including operators, device manufacturers, application developers and distributors.

The rapid roll-out of 3G and 4G services is boosting growth and efficiency in all sectors including education, banking, media, health and retailing, as well as being a key enabler for innovative e-services such as e-medicine and e-education in rural and remote areas of Pakistan.

The awards were presented as part of the GSMA’s annual Ministerial Programme at Mobile World Congress.

More than 1,200 key government and regulatory representatives from around the world are meeting with industry leaders to discuss specific regulatory issues relating to innovation and development of mobile communications.

  • They definitely deserved the award for it because 3G auction seemed impossible in Pakistan since last 10 years

  • By the way, Warid deserves for a separate award because they brought 4G LTE without spending a single cent.

    • They must have paid extra fee upfront while it was first getting the license, for the spectrum they have. Plus the range available they can not offer broadband to all its subscribers unlike other four telcos.

      • First of all, the range of 4G is less than 3G due to the frequency differences. Only two operators have 4G – Warid and Zong. 4G service couldn’t be expanded in all the areas as a 3G service does. At least, Warid’s providing 4G LTE without spending a single PAISA!!! Isn’t it good?

  • yeah , very good step our government. now PTCL is not our only choice of 3g and charji .. Respectful To Our Government .
Atleast we should appreciate them instead of ” Iski kiya zaroorat thi Roti , Kapra , Makan chahiye” ohh , cmon they are working for it.
you should be aware of Pakistan upcoming project For Education , Hospitality , Technology , Electricity etc

  • Anusha Rehman deserves another opposite award (lack of competence) for not being able to resolve the YOUTUBE matter with Google and not being able to offer and filtered version while some other sites offering same content via youtube api. So Thumbs down for our minister of IT and Telecom.

  • well, I do not think Pakistan’s services to subscribers and general public deserve any award. May the winner of 3G, gresed the palms of this Award. We have to check the authenticity of the Award issuing authority. The services of PTCL, TELECONS, WI FI companies are much below the normal standards even as compared to India, middle east and far East as Malaysia,Thailand and Hong Kong. I am surprised at the category of award. It seems” funny and self oriented.”

  • A well deserved award but in my opinion it should have been received jointly by IT Minister and Chairman PTA as both played a key role towards 3G/4G which led to this award.
