Promotional Offers, Unlike Inaami/Lottery Schemes, are Not Banned: Telcos

Supreme Court, as we reported yesterday, banned Inaami / lottery Schemes that are deceptive in nature and cause huge monetary losses to mobile phone users.

Mobile phone companies, however, believe that promotional campaigns that offer reward to customers against the usual usage of telecom services at normal tariffs are not capped by the said judgement.

Sources in mobile phone companies told ProPakistani that Inaami / Lottery Schemes that specifically lure customers to call a number or send text messages to a short code at premium rates are banned as per the judgement of Supreme Court.

Promotional campaigns, on the other hands, that offer reward against usage of conventional telecom services aren’t banned.

Furthermore, the Supreme Court had said that PTA is free to decide on case to case basis regarding the schemes.

“It is just like becoming a millionaire by scratching crown cork of PEPSI bottle and only one out of millions could be such lucky person to win the jackpot”, said the source.

Officials said that rewarding customers against usage of their primary services is a global phenomenon and it doesn’t violate any consumer right.

  • Glad to know that promotional offers are still active, overall it’s a good call from the high court!

  • I think that is great news! Promotional offers help create create goodwill with the company.

  • great decision by supreme court but it also good news that promotional offers are still running

  • Mobile phone companies rewarding customers does not seem to exploit them in any way. I feel supreme court needs to look over this issue again and ban inaami schemes launched by fraudulent sitting at rented apartments and stripping consumers of their hard earned money. Promotional campaigns are just another promotional medium used globally. Why should it be any different over here.

  • Such rewarding schemes shouldn’t be banned. They don’t cause ‘huge monetary losses to mobile phone users’ but on the contrary they offer an intensive that make us the customers’ valued.

  • Good decision by court, fraud activities must be stopped! Though it’s a relief to hear that promotional activities and offers are still active and don’t fall the umbrella of the this ban!

  • This is cool that promotional offers are not banned, I find them quite useful for me and on the other hand I also appreciate this effort of the court to stop wrong activities.

  • That is good news after all some body did try to stop wrong things. But am really happy to hear that promotional offers are not banned. Great Job!

  • Ufone provides the best promotional offers, good to know that they are still on.
