IESCO will Use Android Phones for Meter-Reading

Islamabad Electricity Supply Company (IESCO) is going to start taking meter readings for consumers in the Rawalpindi region through Android smartphones.

To start off things, the system will go live in five divisions in Rawalpindi which include:

  • Satellite town
  • Westridge
  • Tariq Abad
  • Cantt
  • Mareer

All electricity supply companies have been directed by the government to make sure that consumer meter readings are carried out digitally. To ensure this, more than 300 meter readers were trained on a new system but the results were unsatisfactory.

Hence, IESCO has decided to provide Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime smartphones to the meter readers for taking meter readings. The company will provide trainings on how to use the smartphone for that purpose.

IESCO is also aiming to provide meter reading photographs on the bills to reduce the complaints about wrong readings but that initiative hasn’t produced any results yet.

  • Hmm, n how many of those phones will be gifted to the meter-readers’ relatives?? XD

  • Last month meter reader took my house readings via smart phone. So I think it is already started in Islamabad. Indeed a good step

  • another option is to go for prepaid electricity. If it can be done in countries like India and Tanzania (East Africa) it is very doable in Pakistan. It will get rid of the meter reading issues and defaulters. Supported by expanding mobile financial services industry and e-load economy these meters should be given a serious thought.

  • Well SUI gas is already using such devices from years and you can see pictures of readings.and also any tapering around meters .
    What about unmetered connections.
