Etisalat Delegation Meets with Ishaq Dar

A three member delegation of the Etisalat group led by its CEO, Ahmad A. K. Julfar had a meeting with the Finance Minister, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar. Anusha Rehman Khan, Minister for State for Telecom and IT, Mr. Walid Arshaid, CEO PTCL, and other senior officials of the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of IT attended the meeting.

In the meeting administrative and financial matters relating to the PTCL were discussed. The Finance Minister was presented a brief performance review of PTCL since the company was handed over to Etisalat. This review was presented by CEO and President of PTCL Walid Arshaid.

Ishaq Dar applauded the measures that PTCL management had in mind to diversify its services and expand its business, said a statement published on Finance Ministry website.

Statement said that Etisalat delegation communicated its thoughts about Pakistani market and about the issues faced by the telecom sector. Finance Minister said that input from other stakeholders would be obtained in this regard and steps would be taken to address the issues faced by the sector.

Mr. Dar, on this occasion, said that Pakistan has always enjoyed excellent relations with the brotherly Islamic country of UAE and it looks forward to taking these relations to new heights in all sectors, including telecom.

Mr. Dar hoped that under Etisalat, services provided by PTCL would further improve in future and inter-connectivity with other telecom operators/companies would be further expanded. He said the government wanted to see the telecom sector flourish as much as possible for general good of the economy.

Statement didn’t say anything about the pending USD 800 million that Etisalat is holding against the payment it had to made for PTCL’s purchase since 2005.

  • that was our own mess. don’t know what deal was done inside by shortcut and mush company.
don’t think pakistan will ever receive that money.

  • PTCL is to be taken back by GoP- as ETISALAT ruined PTCL – specially the experienced employees PTCL. Their cases are in courts- and working of courts are very slow to decide their cases. ETISALAT is able found “LEKUNAS: in Pakistan i.e. delaying tactics. KON MAI KA Lal will get back USD 800M from ETISALAT?? Million dollar question.
