Twitter Launches Promoted Tweets in Pakistan

Twitter has rolled out “promoted tweets” in Pakistan. The new service enables branded messages to appear in user’s feeds. Businesses and common users can use promoted tweets to reach out to more people especially to targeted audiences. The service launched more than 5 years ago and was Twitter’s first step into commercialization of its social platform.

The promoted tweets are not ads, but common tweets that are highlighted to a wider group of users and non-followers depending on their interests and engagement. If a promoted tweet is not retweeted or replied to, it disappears, so these promoted tweets need to be engaging. This is the only criteria on how to expand the range of this service. According to Twitter’s Revenue Chief, Adam Bain, the company is especially interested in expanding Twitter’s presence in markets which have a higher smartphone use.

The service was previously restricted to only a handful of countries. Recently Twitter has upped their game and rolled out the service to 167 new countries. The company is aiming to expand internationally over the years but this is the first major step that it has taken to reach out a much larger potential advertiser base.

Promoted Tweets in Pakistan will be sold through Connect Ads

The social platform has seen an increase in its user-base in the Middle East recently which has led to Twitter announcing a partnership with Connect Ads, an Egypt based advertising company. Twitter’s promoted tweets will be sold through Connect Ads in Egypt, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Pakistan. During the launch phase, Twitter has managed to secure four customers namely Pepsi Arabia, Mobily (Saudi), Atlantis Hotel and Dubai Calendar.

The company now offers advertising in 15 languages and has over 100,000 advertising partners including small businesses that use the self-service advertising platform. In comparison, Facebook has 2 million advertising partners. Currently, 63% of Twitter’s revenue is generated from just the US. This move could boost Twitter’s revenues and improve the social platform’s presence in countries like Pakistan.

How to Make the Most Out of Promoted Tweets?

The only major criteria for reaching a very wide user group is to have a compelling piece of content. So to create a Promoted Tweet, start by writing an interesting tweet. It could be anything from product release, an offer, a prize draw, an event or sale. It is advised to add an image or video to drive engagement. After the tweet is created, use Twitter’s targeting options to connect with the right audience and the promoted tweet will show in your target audience’s tweet feed.
