Pakistan is Working on Bringing PayPal, AliPay to Pakistan: Minister

Pakistan has (once again) said that it’s working aggressively on legislation to pave the way for international payment gateways, such as Paypal and AliPay, to enter the local market.

This time around, Khurram Dastgir Khan, Commerce Minister, claimed that government of Pakistan — under the supervision of State Bank of Pakistan — is working on streamlining the processes that will enable international payment gateways to start offering services in Pakistan very soon.

Timeline for this, however, was not communicated.

Mr. Dastgir, who was in China recently with Mr. Nawaz Sharif, Prime Minister of Pakistan, when they visited Alibaba group headquarters, said that government is moving in the right direction to digitize the economy of the country and hoped that PayPal and other payment gateways would be in Pakistan very soon.

It must be mentioned here that this is not the first time a minister has promised the entry of PayPal and other payment gateways but since you never know, it is hoped that international payment gateways will finally come to Pakistan.

Anusha’s Promise of Paypal, Amazon & Ebay in Pakistan Still A Distant Dream

It maybe recalled here that Pakistan is ranked fourth in the world for number of freelancers in the world, however, they are left with no option but to use either illegal or very expensive means of getting paid from foreign clients.

With arrival of PayPal, this will change and Pakistani freelancers will be able to get funds for the work they do for international clients with just few clicks.

Freelancers have been demanding the government to pave way for PayPal for over 10 years now, however, it’s apparently only now that they have realized the validity of the request and finally a good outcome is anticipated.

    • LOL Paypal is connected with your bank account for any withdrawals and loading money into your account will also require bank account, Which is not a good option for black money handlers.

      • PayPal it’s Legal Way to Remit your Money to International account for fake of shopping.
Agar Ap Bank Se Transacton karte hoge to Pata Hona Chahyah :
Apka Bank Apko Batata hai Paise Bahar Kaise Behjte hai :

        • It is legal, but their checks are way stricter than banks, if you cannot provide proof of money coming in and going out, your account will get frozen instantly.

        • IRS checks trigger when you start approaching 10k in payments and they have to do a mandatory filing at 20k. As someone using PayPal I request that you stop uttering horseshit. Their checks are 10 times better than those employed by our current govt.

        • Bro anti money Launderinglaws boht improve ho gaye hain. Pak is even not on FATF list anymore. https://www.dawn.com/news/1166306

Paypal has its own strong procedures to tackle money Laundering. Moreover you need to link bank accounts and cards to withdraw or deposit money in Paypal.

And money laundering karnay walo k liya a briefcase in a plane is enough eg The doller girl. And u know money laundering to Mr.10% and sher k alawa koi kar nahi sakta

  • Heard this some 3 years ago by IT minister, so I’ll assume this is refresher to that news? Took 10 years to realize, will take another few to implement.

    • Think like it is more than buying grocery for your home. May be at that time they started working on it, then Paypal had reservations and now it is in final stage? Be positive?

      • PayPal started a new company, braintreepayments, they should start to work on bringing that one then.

  • Its good initiative, will be more help full for business deals. but become more competitive for local production companies to survive against international companies..!!

  • It only shows paypal transaction, where it goes it doesn’t shows up on bank statement, but only username of PayPal account holder, now that username can be sitting anywhere

    • It shows some part showing who is recipient, in case it is sent to an email that partially appears.

  • This time Paypal gonna come in Pak soon. You know why? AliExpress has to come so govt has to make regulations for all. When it comes to China and CPEC govt is not messing around.

  • Not having PayPal is the only reason I am avoiding direct advertising on my sites despite the fact I got offers from advertisers to promote their contents. It’s not easy to get bank transfers from unknown in PK living in other countries. Banks will ask 100 questions from where money came, who is sender. So PayPal is must for safe transactions. At least I will be able to answer those suckers that contact PayPal if you got concern about my money from where it came.

  • It maybe not the first time they’ve committed bringing PayPal to Pakistan, but at least PML-N government has shown that the promises they make regarding tech products, and building of roads, metros, etc, they fulfil them. They’ve got a good track record for 3G/4G and other IT services so lets have our fingers crossed and hope that we’ll soon see PayPal and AliPay in Pakistan!

    • Elections sar pe hain, Panama case jan nahi chorr raha tou koi na koi lollipop tou dena hai qoum ko.

  • We have had such type of promises being witnessed for the last few years but no concrete results have been seen. Hence, the Government and State Bank REALLY need to kneel down on their knees and LITERALLY beg these 2 giants to come to pakistan. Government and SBP need to make changes to their banking and monetary policies as per PayPal in order to be compliant with international anti-money laundering laws.

  • BC bodha ho gya hon ye news son son kay… ab ye topi drama bund karo, koi nahi aaraha edher, ye sub chutyapa hai
