Motorways Shut Down as Smog Situation in Punjab & KPK Worsens

Dense smog has engulfed plain areas of Punjab and some parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to Motorways Control Room, Motorway M-1 from Peshawar to Rashkai, M-2 from Lillah to Lahore, M-3 from Pindi Bhattian to Faisalabad and M-4 from Gojra to Faisalabad were closed for traffic today due to dense smog and zero visibility.

Dense fog with poor visibility has also been reported on Khanewal-Multan section of Motorway. The commuters have been advised to maintain reduced speed and a safe distance.

Helpline 130 and control room number 5494126 can be accessed to avoid any inconvenience.

Health experts says that people may experience short-term skin and respiratory conditions such as eye irritation, coughing, throat/chest irritation and skin irritation as a result of this smog.

Dense foggy/smoggy conditions are expected in plain areas of Punjab and foggy over central and lower Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and upper Sindh while smog and fog will be eliminated only after rainfall.

According to Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), mainly dry weather is expected in most parts of the country for the next few days.
