Federal Investigative Agency (FIA) Sindh Zone launched a new web portal for registering complaints related to cyber crime. FIA Sindh receives more than 20 complaints related to cyber crime every day.
Director FIA Sindh Zone, Dr. Amir Ahmed Shaikh launched the web portal in a media briefing held at his office in Karachi. Senior additional directors of FIA were also present at the media briefing.
Dr. Amir Ahmed Shaikh told media that with the introduction of social media and mobile internet, cyber crimes are on the rise. The current web portal was not able to fulfill the needs of the victims and the Agency as well. Therefore the new web portal was launched.
The new Cyber Crime portal can be found at www.fiacybercrimesindh.com.pk.
Dr. Amir states that it may help provide almost all relevant information that people need in cases of Cyber crime.
“The new online complaint reporting will make it easy to lodge complaints. It will also help FIA in efficiently responding to such crimes. This online complaint system will be more useful for young girls, women and young children who are frequent victims of Harassment as they do not need to physically visit our reporting center.” Dr Amir told.
About complaints registration, Dr Amir told that FIA has decided to adopt a humane approach when developing the system. It can be used to keep the identity of victims hidden and confidential. Any relative of a victim can register a complaint on their behalf. Additionally, they can also use video capabilities for the registration of complaints.
“After registration of complaint, within 24 to 48 hours an SMS will be sent to the affected person with an FIA investigative officer’s name and contact number. For cyber crime, the complainant has no need to submit an affidavit.” Dr Amir added.
Dr. Amir Ahmed Shaikh said that in cyber crime and blackmailing cases, 70% of the victims are women and young girls, and about 30% of the victims are male.
FIA Cybercrimes Circle Sindh received 2019 complaints in 3 categories:
- 1592 complains in category of blackmailing, harassment and defamation,
- 307 were related to financial fraud, with 116 of them threatening
- 186 were for the email hacking, spoofing.
“It is noted that mostly young boys indulge in cyber bulling, harassing, and in some cases blackmailing. This usually causes depression in victims, especially young girls, and sometimes they even try to attempt suicide.
Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016 suggests very hard punishments in the case of blackmailing. The law mentions imprisonment of 3 to 14 years and/or a fine from Rs 50 thousand to 5 million.“ Dr Amir told.

I am being subject to cyber crime. I have been contacting the Cyber Crime Sindh Circle since 2 weeks now through calls and emails. My complaint with all proofs have been submitted and I have received an ID but no serious action has been taken yet. The crime still continues to happen by the suspect who is blackmailing and defaming me publicly till date.
Who is responsible for taking an action?
When will I get justice?
