Samsung is bringing a bunch of new solid-state drives to its already stellar lineup, succeeding the 960 Pro and the 960 Evo.
The new 970 Pro and 970 Evo take advantage of the Korean company’s prowess in 3D flash memory and NVme segments. The M.2 SSDs are based on the new 64-bit 3D flash memory, with the Pro supporting 2-bit MLC, and the Evo 3-bit MLC. The Pheonix controller is nickel-coated in order to reduce temperatures.
Features
In terms of speed, the 970 Pro takes the roost with sequential read and write speeds of 3500 MB/s and 2700 MB/s, respectively. The 970 Evo offers the same read speed. Its write speed slightly trails behind the Pro at 2500 MB/s.
Similarly, the 970 Pro manages up to 500K IOPS, while the 970 Evo can get 480K IOPS. Not a lot of people would notice the differences, though.

Storage options for the 970 Evo include 250 GB, 50 GB, 1 TB, and 2 TB, while those on the higher-end 970 Pro are 512 GB and 1 TB.
The SSDs are also highly rated for durability, with an expected life of 1200 TB of data written, which is an improvement of 50% over the last models. Still, Samsung is providing a warranty of up to 5 years in case you’re worried.
Use and Price
Possible applications for the new SSDs include people that higher data processing needs such as 3D applications, 4K data handling as well as high-end gaming.
Pricing starts at $119.99 for 250 GB, $229.99 for 500 GB, $449.99 for 1 TB, and $849 for 2 TB of the 970 Evo. Those of the 970 Pro starts at $329.99, with the next storage option expected to be twice that.
