88% of Pakistani Houses Don’t Have Any Large Screen Gadget

Only 12% of households in Pakistan have at least one computer, laptop, or tablet, Pakistan Social and Living Standards Measurement (PSLM) Survey has revealed.

According to PSLM Survey, 93% of households in the country have at least one mobile phone while 33% have access to the internet.

A province-wise comparison shows that Punjab has the highest percentage of households having at least one computer, laptop, or tablet. 13% of Punjab’s total households have such facilities while 22% of urban households have them and 8% of rural households have at least one of these facilities.

At the other end of the spectrum, Balochistan has the lowest percentage of households having at least one computer, laptop, or tablet. 6% of Balochistan’s total households have such facilities while 13% of urban households have them and just 1% of rural households have at least one of these facilities.

40% of Islamabad’s households have at least one computer, laptop, or tablet. Cities with the highest percentage of at least one such facility in each province show that 24% of households in Lahore have them, 33% of households in Karachi East, 25% of households in Peshawar, and 20% of households in Barkhan have these facilities.

Where mobile phone is concerned, 96% of urban households in the country have at least one mobile phone while 91% of rural households have them.

A province-wise comparison shows that 95% of households in KP have at least one mobile phone, 94% in Punjab, 92% in Balochistan, and 91% in Sindh. Meanwhile, 99% of Islamabad’s households have at least one mobile phone.

PSLM Survey covered around 176,790 households across rural and urban communities, collecting information on a range of social sector issues — information technology, education, and health by facilities and services.

The survey focused on countrywide household’s level with the facility of computer, laptop, tablet, mobile and internet for individuals who are 10 years and older using a computer, ICT skills, internet and ownership and usage of mobile phone.
