I purchased a Sony Lcd some time back and gave them my Address and cell #so they could deliver it to my place

Received this sms 2 days ago
    Sony World Zamzama presents
    Summer surprises scheme
Get Free Gift on purchase of.............
    .................................................. .
    .................................................. .
    Contact XXXXXXX

Now what happens is when Sony World wants to inform its current customers about new deals they hire a marketeer and provide him/her with the customers list so that sms can be sent.....

The deal between Sony World and the Marketeer ends as soon as the messages have been sent to the customers

Now its this Marketeer who is to blame for these spam SMS'es
another business entity goes to this marketeer to advertise a new business.. this marketeer already Having Sony customers list will send SMS'es for this new Business Entity

Alot of times these marketeer sell of the numbers database they have multiple times to business who want to advertise thus resulting in these spam SMS'es

in the end it all comes down to marketing Ethics which sadly these people dont have............

I normally get 4-5 different spam sms every day, and this is just increasing as the time passing, all cellular companies should launch Block Spam service Free of cost!

I compiled a list of spam SMS I got in the month of June: http://i.com.pk/telcos-spamming-their-customers

They can send SMS even at 2am midnight. They don't give you any opt-out option (which should be required by law). You cannot unsubscribe?

And this is why I have two phones: one personal number which I do not give out to such people or when I fill out forms, and one number where I don't care if I get the spams because it's usually not in my pocket.

This will continue until and unless the law makers/ The authorities such as PTA do not make a specific law & more importantly the execution/implementation.
From cellular companies side, this is the total failure of the marketing teams that, they didn't know the exact segments to target. they do not have developed the mechanics yet that to whom should the promotional sms should be sent....

yes there are segments of different nature who love to receive promotional messages of different natures...

Warid has took the "spamming business" to a new level, daily they send spam with 6-7 different ID's, Eid Offer, Power Pack, Glow, Warid, GPRS offer, Glow Dosti, Sms Bundles etc etc
