    Question Who to blame at PTCL?

    Aslam-o-Aliekum,

    Using PTCL Broadband for more then a year, i don't remember a single day when I got a perfect SNR Margin + adorable downstream, thought there had been some days but very rarely. I talked to the line man, to the the concerned DSL Dept., to the manager operations of my city and even to the head in Islamabad. They all failed to identify the hell with my telephone line. My problem isn't complicated, its just that DSL connects only when the phone is on busy tone, else it doesn't connects at all. No PTCL technical employee comes with a clear solution. Can any body please help me out that by identifying the problem with my telephone line so that I may step ahead. Any techie here ?

    It may be a "Splitter" problem or may be some problem at the exchange end.

    MZC I have also changed the splitter, even remove and made the line direct, but after doing this, condition gets even worse!

    Then its the fault from the exchange end, may be a minor one - but you know exchange people mostly not willing to do their jobs unless you give them some

    The Prophet (sal lal la ho aliyae hay wa aa lay he wa sallam) said,

    "ALLAH's curse is on the one who offers the bribe and on the judge who accepts it."

    (Reported by Ahmad, al-Tirmidhi, and Ibn Hibban in his Sahih.)

    My relatives also had this problem. The solution was to get a new modem from PTCL.

    Now I'm getting a problem where if someone picks up the phone the internet disconnects.

    Either your splitter isn't in the right place or it's not working. 100% problem in your house.

    Line from outside ----> splitter
    NO EXCEPTIONS
    Then from the splitter to your modem and to your phone.

    But we didn't have this problem for the better part of an year. Even though we were basically using Phone + DSL all the time... This is how the wiring in my house goes. I've changed the splitter by the way.

    Line from outside -> Joint -> Splitter -> One loooong wire to the phone, One tiny wire to the Modem -> Modem bridges -> Router connects.

    It doesn't matter. If it worked for you, that's okay, but that's not the right way to do it. There must be no phones connected to the wire before the splitter.
