PTA's Forum on Telecom Consumer Rights

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) is holding a Telecom Consumer Forum on a theme “Together for Consumer Rights” at Karachi on Friday 7th August 2009. Chief Minister Sindh will be the chief guest on this occasion while chairman PTA will preside over the function. Senior representatives of PTA licensees, stakeholders, special telecom consumer groups, academia and the media community will also participate in this event.

According to the Chairman PTA, Dr. Mohammed Yaseen, this “Forum on Consumer Protection” would help bringing positive developments in the telecom sector including promotion of larger consumer interests through safeguarding their rights. All this has been done and will be done as satisfied telecommunity and thriving telecom sector is the ultimate goal of PTA.

It may be noted that PTA has always been engaged in facilitating telecom consumers with best telecom services along with the due protection of their rights. The efforts of PTA, in this regard, have already been translated in its consumer-oriented initiatives like Mobile Number Portability, System to Block Stolen Mobiles through IMEI Number, establishment of Consumer Protection Department for the redressal of consumer grievances, 7 to 8 digit Numbering Plan for Fixed Line, New Consumer Friendly SIM Activation System, Lowest Telecom Tariffs amidst competitive environment etc.


  • Consumer Associatioin of Pakistan(CAP) TEAM also participated in this PTA Consumer Forum.Chairman,CAP,Mr.Kokab Iqbal also addressed the forum and highlighted the rights of telecom consumers in Pakistan.He also highlighted some issues of PTCL(Pakistan package launched without consumers consent) and advertisement values of Telecom companies.

    By the efforts of CAP,Consumer protection directorate is established at PTA office,Islamabad and available for the telecom consumers at [email protected] .

    Mr.Amjad Salam Amjad has also participated ,encouraged the telecom operators and consumers to play their positive role.This forum was ended on Q&A session where participants/consumers asked the questions from all speakers.
