USF to Subsidize Multipurpose Rural Community Centers

Universal Service Fund has been acting as a ray of hope for under-served areas of the country. It has successfully delivered to those who were missing the telecom and technology privileges, even better than what USF was destined for.

Cellular service in far flung terrains with no mode of transportation, or be it the broadband services as low as Rs. 300 per 1 MB per month, or you talk about country wide fiber optic – all this was made possible only by USF.

Now moving forward, USF has planned to establish multipurpose community centers (MCT) in the country side, with 20 centers as a pilot project before going huge throughout the country.

USF said that it will bear all the expenses for setting up these centers, and has asked Corporations, Rural Support Organizations / NGOs / Community Organizations and Public Sector Entities who can run this facility in the rural areas and serve the community.

Each MCT will be fully equipped with international standard ICT infrastructure, Broadband and Alternate Energy. The MCTs will provide services to the local community.

All running expenses related to the MCTs will be borne by the respective organizations whereas Universal Service Fund shall provide subsidy to setup the facility.

Interested Parties are requested to show their interest in this Pilot project by registering with Universal Service Fund. Project Details are available on Universal Service Fund website: http://www.usf.org.pk/Tenderdescription.aspx?149
