Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has just issued a directive, asking cellular operators to suspend mobile phone service in Karachi, Quetta and G9 (Islamabad), tells us sources in cellular companies.
Suspension details are as following:
- Karachi: 1 PM to 12 AM
- Quetta 1 PM to 12 AM
- G9 – Islamabad: 1 PM to 7 PM
A source, who has seen the PTA directive, said that there was no mention of cellular suspension for tomorrow or day after tomorrow (9th and 10th Muharram). However, he said that industry is fearing more cellular suspensions on larger scale and more cities on Saturday and Sunday.
PTA is likely to issue service suspension directives for Saturday and Sunday as well.
PTA, on advisory from Interior Ministry, now regularly issues such directives for cellular suspensions, citing security reasons. It appears that the ban on pillion riding and cellular services go hand in hand.
Wireless phone service is also shut today.anyone have any accurate figures on the no. of wireless phone subscribers in pakistan? i mean how many vfone,worldcall wireless consumbers are there? and is that GO CDMA wireless phone service still functioning? any reports on the wireless sector?

Today is 23rd Nov, please post update on this matter as in few minutes this non-sense CELLULAR LOAD SHADING will be repeated again!
They are just misleading the nation. Stopping cellular services or Motor bike ban is not way the solution or even tiny part of it. They just can’t perform and using these cheap tricks to seem busy but people know everything now, you are not going to be elected again Malik and company.

The Supreme Court of Pakistan wrote about Rehman Malik: “As regards the case of Senator A. Rehman Malik, it may be noted that at the time of filing of nomination papers for election to the Senate held in the year 2008, he had made a false declaration to the effect that he was not subject to any of the disqualifications specified in Article 63 of the Constitution or any other law for the time being
in force for being elected as a member of the Parliament/Provincial Assembly, therefore, reference will be required to be made to the Chairman Senate under Article 63(2) in view of the provision of section 99(1)(f) of the Act of 1976, which lays down that a person shall not be qualified from being elected or chosen as a member of an Assembly unless he is sagacious, righteous and non-profligate and honest and ameen. Mr. A. Rahman Malik, in view of the false declaration filed by him at the time of contesting the election to the Senate held in the year 2008, wherein he was elected, cannot be considered sagacious, righteous, honest and ameen within the contemplation of section 99(1)(f) of the Act of 1976. Therefore, for such purposes Article 63(p) is to be adhered to because the disqualification incurred by him is envisaged under the law, referred to hereinabove in view of his own statement that he had renounced his citizenship of UK whereas the fact remains that such renunciation along with declaration can only be seen as having been made on 29.05.2012.”
