PTCL to Offer Free Data Hosting Services to 28 Federal and Provincial Departments

PTCL logoPakistan Telecommunications Company Limited (PTCL) will be offering data hosting services to 28 government departments for free during first 15 months. Federal and provincial departments will be provisioned PTCL’s data hosting services for establishment of e-government system.

This was unveiled during a meeting yesterday held between Minister of State for Information and Technology Anusha Rahman and Mr. Walid Irshad, President PTCL.

Ms. Anusha Rehman, on the occasion, said that after the provision of the said facility by PTCL, it would be possible now for Ministry of Information Technology to materialize its plan of introduction of e-government system in rest of 28 federal ministries, provinces, Prime Minister Office and Ministry of Information Technology itself as soon as the understanding between Ministry of IT and PTCL is formally concluded.

Ministry of IT and Telecom, when asked, said that government of Pakistan selected PTCL for provision of services due to its FOC (free of cost) terms for first 15 months. Ministry said that during this time NTC will get its data centre deployment done after which services will be acquired directly from NTC.

Ministry, however, accepted that it didn’t publicly announce the tender for the provision of services.

Ministry said that security of data will not be an issue as its application is 128 bit encrypted and that only less-secure files will be placed on PTCL’s servers.

When asked about the favours PTCL might claim against these free services, Ministry of IT and Telecom said that no favour will be returned to PTCL against the service.

  • This is blatant support of International service provider, Etisalat/PTCL, over local providers such as Transworld who have equally good data center.

Why was there no tender as per PPRA rules??

      • Yes I thought it was owned by Orascom!
Only local ISPs are Cybernet, Nayatel, Nexlinx. Everyone else is just visiting!

    • TWA is owned by Orascom and they established their data center in there landing station which is at hawksbay…means you have to cross liyari, maripur which usually close due to unrest in the area..

  • the expenditure is now more than 1000 million……. Minister of State for IT Anusha Rehman is closing all project except E-office………………extensions are stilll awaited for remaining projects…… which she is reluctant to do so……………………….

the offer mentioned here by PTCL is the ongoing process of Closing EGD Agenda and Fire its staff……….

  • Rumors are still there,,,,, that after hosting in PTCL, the tender for FGDC equipment or its accessories will be awarded to a company which runs by a higher army official………

  • MOM recorded ,,, in that minister said that “advance salary for one month for FGDC employees and say bye bye to all ov them”

  • security of data will be a very high issue coz E-office project is on the way to roll out from MoIT and next destination will be Prime Minister Secretariat, how can the say security will not be an issue……….????????

  • till not picked up the whole plan…..

Minister of state for IT closing 12 projects of its department EGD, due to the order of supreme court to return back 82 Billion Rs of USF fund which was taken out to clear the circular debt.

  • no new deptt will be created its just she is on “killing EGD” and its staff Agenda…….. She is also willing to rent out the building which was built only for EGD and its operations………

  • I guess .. its what they usually do . Remove everything that was done by the previous regimes and start something new or claim to make a breakthrough.

  • She said the permanent staff of EGD will be shifted to Ministry, and the new building will be rent out,,,,,, in this regard she will soon be visiting EGD to C new building…….. where we all are sitting right now

  • security of data will be a very high issue coz E-office project is on the way to roll out from MoIT and next destination will be Prime Minister Secretariat, how can the say security will not be an issue……….????????
