Ali Baba Officials Are Visiting Pakistan With Plans to Invest up to $400 Million Here

A high-level delegation of Ali Baba, the global tech giant, is visiting Pakistan again, we have confirmed with sources.

This is second time in just two months that top officials of Ali Baba are visiting Pakistan.

Our well placed sources confirmed that Ali Baba’s delegation will be headed by Mr. Michael Evans, the President and Director of Ali Baba, who looks after Group’s international growth strategy in globalizing the group and expansion plans outside China.

Ali Baba delegation is likely to meet with Mian Nawaz Sharif, Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mr. Khurram Dastagir Khan, commerce Minister, Ms. Anusha Rehman, Minister for IT and Telecom among other key designates in the capital.

Ali Baba had first shown its interest in Pakistani market when Jack Ma, the Chairman of Ali Baba Group, had met with Prime Minister of Pakistan few months ago in Davos, Switzerland on the sidelines of World Economic Forum’s annual meeting.

According to visit schedule, shared with ProPakistani, Ali Baba delegation will reach here early in the morning tomorrow.

During first session, the officials will meet with Pakistani ministers to discuss finances, investment and other monetary issues. Then later on, during second session, the delegation will meet with IT Minister, commerce minister to discuss various matters relating to Ali Baba’s plans in the country.

Delegation is also set to meet with Mr. Miftah Ismail, Chairman Board of Investment, and with Chairman NADRA.

Sources said that from the looks, government of Pakistan is hoping that Ali Baba group will invest around $400 million in Pakistan in various segments.

However, they said, final plans will only be revealed after Ali Baba’s meetings with government officials.

As per some sources, Ali Baba has remained in talks with Daraz for a possible acquisition, however, no one confirmed this to ProPakistani on the record.

    • There is no local version of Ali Express for Pakistani sellers but you still can buy and get your orders on your door step from Ali Express. Many of them offering free shipping too.

        If you purchase mobile or electronics, customs will ask you Pemra, PTA notification, and charge 2000-3000 fees, you will also need to pay sales tax, custom duty too..
        if you purchased a mobile in 10000, you will need to pay approximately 10000+ custom, sales tax, pta/pemra fee too…

          • Lol, i am not saying that draz is better than amazon and ali express, i told risk while purchasing from outside,,,, had you purchase any mobile from amazon ? if you purchased mobile in 10k, you have to pay 10k+ for custom, sales tax and pta approval, with fees

        • I am active buyer for Ali Express and I have paid 0 Taxes so don’t exploit this and Daraz has very low quality and high price.

          • i have seen lot of friends,,,, they got trouble while purchasing from outside Pakistan, they need to pay double fee i-e sales tax, custom and etc if you are interested to purchase from outside, then go ahead, i am not employ of draz

            • Actually you have never purchased anything from Ali express that’s why you are making baseless statements. So don’t believe on your friends believe me I have received everything with 0 taxes but I give tip to the guy who deliver me goods on my door step in 11 days.

                  I use Standard chartered Debit Card to process the payments and its simple as following steps:
                  1. Add 16 numbers card Numbers
                  2. Add CSV on the back side of card.
                  3. Add card as payment card.
                  4. Process

                  In this way your transactions will be made in US dollars and you will be notified through sms and email.

        • how many products have you bought from aliexpress?? Daraz is the worst platform. They cant even ship products properly. I bought 7 jewellery sets from Daraz and they had to deliver it from karachi to karachi and i received 5 out of 7 totally broken. I bought 8 glass jars and received 6 of them shattered. For Gods Sake stop comparing amazon and aliexpress to daraz, who knows next you will compare ebay with kaymu.pk :D

          • No, i mostly purchase from draz, my cozn too, i think they are best in Pakistan, but import from foreign with courier is risky… If you want to purchase from outside,,,, then go ahead…

        • use Aliexpress mobile app, you will get some discount and when you will select Pakistan in country, it will give you shipping rates. Many of the companies give free shipping for order quantity of 1. Try it yourself.

    • problem is the number of famous brands available there. Otherwise Aliexpress is doing great and i believe now as they are focusing on quality, very soon they will be offering more famous brands of all the products.
