Following the violation of the MoU signed between PCB and BCCI, PCB is all set to demand $70 million as compensation from BCCI. PCB will file its claim in dispute resolution committee of ICC in a few days.
A MoU was signed by BCCI back in 2014 that stated that a total of six series between the arch rivals will be played from 2015 to 2023. But BCCI backed out due to the political tension between the two countries.
While talking to a news agency, Chairman PCB Najam Sethi said,
Our case is that the BCCI signed an MoU with us in 2014 to play six bilateral series, starting with our home series, which they have not done as yet.
He further elaborated on the disappointment,
Secondly, they have avoided playing us in bilateral series since 2008 although they have no issues playing against us in ICC events.
Chairman PCB said that the board has repeatedly asked BCCI about Pakistan-India series at a neutral venue but BCCI is not ready to do that either. BCCI on the other hand termed lack of permission from their government to play against Pakistan as the reason for violation of the MoU.
PCB has faced huge financial loss due to lack of international cricket at home venues and BCCI violation of MoU has added more to their problems.
“We even offered to host our home series against them at neutral venue(s) to be mutually agreed by both of us. In 2016, we even offered to host a limited overs series in Sri Lanka.” Concluded Sethi.
PCB has aims to respond in an astute manner, which will send a strong message across the border that Pakistan is not a nation to be trifled with.
