Etisalat Warns Govt Against Granting License to SCO

Etisalat has reportedly warned the government of Pakistan that it will move to at an international court  if it allows the Special Communication Organization (SCO) to operate throughout the country on a commercial basis.

Well placed sources revealed that Etisalat has conveyed to the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication that as per the shareholder agreement, no government-backed operator would be brought into competition.

However, if the government allows SCO to operate in the whole country, it would be considered a violation of the agreement as well as international commitments. In case this happens, Etisalat reserves the right to move an international court to resolve the issue, sources privy to the development revealed on Thursday.

Sources further said that according to the Law Division’s interpretation, there is no issue if a license is allowed to the SCO. However, neither the IT Ministry nor the other stakeholders are in favor of allowing SCO to operate throughout the country on a commercial basis.

The amendments proposed by the SCO to enhance operations throughout Pakistan were principally disagreed upon by Ministry of Information Technology. They believe that:

it is against the stated policy of the government, international commitments and other commercial agreements in the telecom regime.

A meeting of the Sub-Committee of the Committee on Delegated Legislation of Senate – held on December 8th 2017 – discussed the issue of enhancement of SCO’s area of operation in the light of opinion by the Ministry of Law and Justice. But the Committee deferred discussion due to absence of officials from Law and Justice Ministry and directed them to ensure their presence in the next meeting.

The meeting is scheduled for Friday (today) again to discuss the matter.

The sub-committee was formed to consider the proposed amendments to the Telecommunications Reorganization Act 1996, allowing the SCO to enhance its areas of operations throughout Pakistan.

The sub-committee had asked the ministry and the SCO to settle the matter and prepare a report. However, the two sides could not come to an agreement during the last eight months.

SCO is a public sector organization working under the ministry of IT. It was established in 1976 to develop, operate and maintain telecom services in Azad Jammu Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

  • In what Capacity are these illiterate Arabs objecting??? did they pay us their pending $800 million in lieu of PTCL privatization……..if they don’t keep promises we are also not bound……tit for tat.

    • Oh, you call them illiterate?
Please compare any city with their cities, or any organization with their? and let me know, if you found, we have any better thing?

          • #Zain, Because of Medical facilities, Dr Asil also has decided to go to Thar for getting medical treatment. now to the world is also coming to thar to confirm whether Buttoo is still alive and to for medical as well

        • Yeah right, we heard in the news about Arab kids dying due to lack of nutrition, never heard about such thing in Thar.
Thar is modern place to live in the whole world, with Clean water, load shedding free electricity, beautiful buildings, and free medical facilities.
          I think that’s you’re dreaming?

          • Arabs are coming to Thar for Medical,
Even Dr Asim has decided to get his treatment from one of the Civil Hospitals in Thar, what else you want??

        • Excuse me? Was that a joke or are you actually being serious?

You can’t compare Pakistan to UAE or any other Arab country. You just can’t. These arabs, no matter what you perceive them to be, are much more intelligent, sensible and much more literal than you think.

          • O bhai sab Dollar ka chakkar hai. Pakistaniyo k pas itna paisa aur dolat ho to dekho kaise dunya ko nachatay hain.

            • Pakistaniyon k pass in se ziada nahi to in se kam bhi nahi hogi Dolat, lakin dekh lo, sub k sub ne UK/Swiss/US main rakhi hoi hai, yaqeen na aye to Panama ka namma parh lo :P

            • بھائی صاحب اگر پاکستان میں سونے کی اینٹوں اور ہیرے کی برسات ہو تب بھی یہاں کی عوام کی حالت نہیں بدلنے والی

      • Decorating arab cities with tall skyscrappers does’nt mean the nation is literate or intelligent. Especially wealth earned from oil & petrol etc…..These AYYASH & SHARABI Arabs are not making the cities beautiful by their own hardwork & skills like other countries i.e. Japan, China, Europe etc. They have huge natural resources and by selling them they hire foreign experts in every field (from architecht to medical) they developed.
        For example:
An “Un parh wadera/chaudhry” in rural sindh/Punjab can easily become wealthy and make big banglows, luxury cars and mansions by selling his property in village. It never shows he is very talented, educated and hardworking. That’s what arabs did there. It’s not a big deal.
They are nothing without people of other countries. Even can’t fight with a bunch of houthis by themselves.

    • We should go to war with them and teach them a lesson! What use is our grand army if we can’t use it?

        • my life is great. i earn in dollars and spend in rupees. it’s you conformists that suffer.

          • And yet you cannot live without boasting yourself or belittling Islam and Pakistan every now and then. Speaks volumes about you.

Keep earning, nobody gives a F about you. Keep stroking that little ego of yours mate.

Never once I have seen any constructive comment from you, a typical troller and nothing else. Remind us again, do you get paid for trolling? Really seems like a great life ^^

  • Kiyun Etisalat ne pora Pakistan hi khareed liya hai. Its the country of people of Pakistan not any third class sheikh. By the way Etisalat only has less than 50% shares even in ptcl even which is not fully paid.

    • My dear you know nothing about how great the Arabs truly are.
They must be . . . because a few have bought Zardaris/Bhuttos by selling half of Dubai, while other Arabs have bought Nawaz Shareef by selling companies like Bin Dawood and other palaces in Jeddah, Riyadh and Khobar, (built over the blood of Pakistanis).
Karachi was the air and port hub of Asia long before Dubai, but
incidents like Bohri bazaar bombing (killed over 200 innocent civilians) then started happening, where hundreds of innocent Pakistanis died . . miraculously and quite
“unexpectedly” all investment then shifted to a desert town, where there was
not even water to drink in a city called “Dubai”.
      All the rest is history.
Which is why more than 1 million Pakistani slaves are today toiling in those countries, many of whose passports are taken away when they land, and after not being paid
for 6 months, they are put in cages in the desert when they protest for their salaries.
Please google and see for yourself about what happened to Pakistanis in Saudi last year.
There were many TV programs done on this at that time, but then the channels airing such “lies” were also provided adequately heavy briefcases.

Also google what has really happened to Etisalat even in the most corrupt
countries of Africa, like Nigeria where they USED to operate, and what will happen
to their top executives if they dare to land in India, where also they USED to operate?
Or where is their previous CEO of Saudi Arabia hiding now-a-days, and why?
Maybe while you are doing that, someone patriotic in our country can also research the background of their top executives in Pakistan?
Very interesting indeed, and requires only google!
But they are great! And now you know why they are!

  • Ptcl aur Etisalat ke larye main Rtd empolyee ke payment 8 saal se stop hai,.Suprem court ne employee ke haq mai fasla dya hai, mager koi shanyai ni. Allah ka dono koof kro, kyo baduaye le rahe ho, Allah tum do ko haydayat de ameent

  • Well, people claiming how Etisalat can claim this, watch “Taboo” Season 1 in which Tom Hardy acting as James Keziah Delaney works on different plots to get a Monopoly on Tea Trade! Which means, he solely claimed the tea trade by giving something of value to the Government!

Same agreement is between Etisalat and Government of Pakistan offering them monopoly in this sector so they can do whatever the F they want!

    Jiye Bhutto!
    Shair Ik Vari Fair!
    Naya Pakistan!

  • there is two-way treachery with pakistani nation.
one our government did with us, we all are kept in utter darkness related to the monopolistic pact finalised with etisalat.
other is, by etisilat itself through putting the natural competing method and free market concept aside.
