2018 Was the Best Year for Pakistani Fast Bowlers Since 1994

Except for the shortest format of the game, Pakistan cricket saw many lows during the year 2018 as compared to only a handful of joyous moments.

Among the highlights of Pakistan cricket during the year was the performance of the team’s seam battery.

The year 2018 saw Pakistan’s pace bowlers take 91 wickets between them at an average of 23.00.

In terms of bowling averages, it was the best year for Pakistani pacers since 1994 when Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis were at their peak.

That is a great achievement considering that Pakistan’s strike bowlers, Muhammad Aamir and Wahab Riaz, had been bowling with averages of over 30.00 during the past few years. The credit goes to Muhammad Abbas and Hassan Ali, who’ve been performing regularly for the team. Faheem Ashraf has also been among wicket-takers in the shorter formats.

While it would be a huge stretch to compare the current crop with the Wasim and Waqar were just two players who were taking down oppositions right and left, it’s is still quite a milestone and a hint at Pakistan’s pace potential for the future.

In T20 cricket, Pakistan continued their dominance in the outgoing year. The Green Shirts churned out 17 wins in 19 matches in 2018, which is a remarkable performance.

Team Pakistan has so far won 11 consecutive series in the format.

Apart from the shortest format of the game, bowling performance was an area which Pakistan can cherish.
