‘It’s the beginning of an API era and we hope to contribute in Pakistan’s economy as we would witness more fascinating apps being developed in the future said Abbas Ali Khan’ – Managing Director Abacus Consulting.
The two-day event provided an opportunity to developers to consume APIs of Telenor, Telenor Bank and JS bank for the first time ever in Pakistan.
More than 250 teams from Pakistan and India applied to compete in APIthon out of which 23 teams from Pakistan were shortlisted.
Among the judges were Abbas Ali Khan, MD Abacus Consulting; Khurram Zafar, Executive Director LCE LUMS; Ali Mukhtar, CEO Fatima Ventures; Badar Khushnood, Co-Founder Bramerz; Khurram Shaikh, Chief Digital Officer JS Bank; Amir Aftab, Head of Digital & IT Development Telenor Pakistan; Humayun Sabir Aziz, CIO Telenor Bank and Omer Moeen Malik; Head of Digital Payment Telenor Bank
‘Bike It’ team won special prize and made direct entry onto the final stage of second cohort of National Incubation Center Lahore.
‘Dream X’ was also announced as a winner and were awarded cash prize of Rs.100,000 by JS Bank alongside securing direct entry onto the final stage of Telenor Acceleration Program.
‘E-Khaata’ team stood at 2nd Runner Up spot and won VR Headsets from Telenor Bank while ‘Repair Wala’ secured 1st Runner Up spot and won VR Headsets from JS Bank and Smart Watch from Telenor Bank.
All of the competing teams consumed APIs of Easy Paisa, Telenor and JS Bank and gave demo of their apps to Judges during the competition which took place at National Incubation Center Lahore, LUMS.
All participating teams were mentored by industry experts in order to help them consume APIs efficiently and error free.
Among the mentors were Shoaib Khan, VP Abacus Consulting; Omer Samiullah, Head of Open Banking & Ecosystem Development at JS Bank; Riyan Imdad, Digital Enablement Expert at Telenor Pakistan; Hassan Shahid Arain, Head of Digital Innovation at Telenor Bank; Tilal Ahmed, Head of Digital Channels & Customer Experience at Telenor Bank and Mohsin Tirmezy, ICT Sector Specialist, USAID Small & Medium Enterprise Activity Program.
The event partners were Apigee, Telenor 4G, Telenor Bank, JS Bank, Momentum, Techjuice, Careem, Naqeebz Consulting, NIC Lahore, IDG – PC World and MIT Enterprise Forum Pakistan.

Ok so it was API hackathon? What was difference btw API Hackathon & App Hackathon? and what have been done here in lahore hackathon?
Focused on API developement but no focus on APi security, many apps got hacked where facebook, twitter, zomato,etc apis got hacked.
