There’s an estimated 1.1 billion people around the world who don’t officially exist as they were never registered at birth.
One third of the population in Pakistan is effectively invisible because of this, living without access to education or healthcare.
Telenor Pakistan worked with UNICEF and local government to develop a comprehensive mobile-based solution to give parents an unprecedented access to birth registration of newborns and unregistered kids of upto 18 years of age.
By speeding up progress with regard to birth registration and the provision of unique identities to the most underserved, Telenor has delivered sustainable identity solutions that have the potential to be taken to scale nationally and deliver social returns.
In addition to establishing a child’s identity, birth registration acts as a key enabler for a multitude of development outcomes including access to healthcare, education & social protection ensuring reduced inequalities thereby supporting a number of UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Thanks to this incredible work, the country has seen over 45,000 birth registrations over the past 5 months. Mobile has the power to create a better future for all and it already is creating a huge impact every single day, in lives and communities across the world.
