Day 5 Result: Kings Consolidate Top Spot, Qalandars Lose 3 on a Trot

It couldn’t get any bigger than this: Karachi vs Lahore!

The clash of the rivals had everything – some amazing catches, brilliant pieces of fielding, Afridi smashing the first ball he faced for a six, getting out the next ball, McCullum doing what he does best, Qalandars creating drama, and whatnot – in short, the biggest match of the PSL 2018 till now was worth every second.

Lahore Qalandars’ sloppy run continued as Karachi Kings clinched their third consecutive win.

Match 8: Karachi Kings vs. Lahore Qalandars

Toss: Karachi Kings, elected to bat.

Karachi Kings Innings

Opting to bat first, Karachi Kings walked out with intent, Joe Denly was all fired up and smashed a 14-ball 28 before he was sent to the pavilion by Yasir Shah, thanks to a brilliant catch by Sunil Narine. A triple strike at 36 made life tough for Karachi as Colin Ingram and Ravi Bopara started the rebuilding process taking the team total to 86 before Ingram was removed by the legspinner Shah.

Acceleration by Bopara at the end ensured that Karachi had a very respectable total of 159/7. Sohail Khan, Yasir Shah and Sunil Narine picked two wickets each.

Lahore Qalandars Innings

Qalandars would have wanted a stable start to the innings, however, Narine didn’t trouble the scorers. Fakhar Zaman and Brendon McCullum counterattacked, taking the score to 70 in just 6.4 overs. 3 wickets in 3 overs dented Qalandars prospects as the wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Ramdin and Sohail Akhtar were left with the responsibility of getting the team over the line.

Another familiar collapse meant that Lahore were bowled out for 132. Shahid Afridi and Usman Khan grabbed 3 wickets each while Tymal Mills got 2.
