This 16 Year Old Girl From Peshawar Drives a Motorcycle to Support Her Family

Meet Nadia from Peshawar who has become a source and symbol of tremendous inspiration for many girls throughout the country.

Belonging to a humble background, Nadia wanted to support her family any way she could. Following her parents’ divorce, she decided to take matters into her own hand, and do something not many in her community could’ve dreamt of –  learn to drive a motorcycle to support her mother and siblings.

She taught herself how to drive one when she was 16, and started off with doing simple errands.

Shops from Nadia’s house were far away and by foot, and going back and forth to them could’ve ended up taking a lot of time. Nadia decided to save the time by going on a bike instead and shop for groceries.

When she first took up driving, and that too at a rather young age, the 16-year-old recalls that she got a mixed response from the community initially. Nadia says that many people supported her when she rode the bike for the first time.

Nadia’s Story

Nadia has four siblings and her grandparents live with her. Her mother got divorced when she was little. As a result, there was no one to look after the needs of her family.

Nadia went to school until the third grade. After that, her family couldn’t afford to send her to school anymore as they had to pay the rent of the house every month.

Nadia says that she wanted to study further and join the armed forces but their financial status didn’t allow her to pursue her dreams.

Nadia works as a maid at different houses as well, hoping to support her family in every way she can. Nadia’s mother also works as a maid so that they can support their living.

Nadia says that her brother is an addict and wants her to stop riding the bike because his friends taunt him for that. However, Nadia says that she will continue her work because she wants to look after the needs of her family.

  • There are many Hindkos / Punjabis or Daal-Khors living in Peshawar. I am pretty sure this girl belong to them. She is dark skinned, so obviously she is not a Pushtoon.
Because Pushtoons are ghairatmand and our women will not display such beghairati in public.

    • Allah na karay tumhari family members par yeh waqt aaey ….ke female ko khod kamana par jaey…..

    • Kindly live as Pakistani Not a Pakhtoon, Punjabi, Kashmiri, Sindhi or Balochi. WE all are Pakistani.

    • By showing some will power and making her life easy, she is riding a vehice by her own. Yes, that shows how Beghairat she is.
No one came forward to help the girls and granparents, she is taking her life in her own hands and doing something gracefully, yet she is beghairat.
Aren’t we are beghairat on judging her?

    • Beghairati? Women who want to work outside the home to provide food and shelter for their family should be encouraged. Otherwise, those people should be burnt alive.

    • @aamir7

Have you set this blog on auto-moderation ? This guy who claims to be very “ghairatmand” . Someone should tell him that “ghairat” demands not to stare and harass sisters and mothers of others.

KPK police has given driving licenses to transgenders as well, now these kind of people will kill them ? On the other hand such people “like” transgenders.

This is being reported by BBC, women on wheels is the name of series of stories of these women. This started in Punjab first but ProPakistani has probably not mentioned that.

    • So by your definition if a guy rides on a bike it makes him baygairat?or bayghairati is specific to women if they ride a bike? Plz explain

    • Mr. Sami you should look at the other side of life. Many people are less fortunate unlike you who would drive a car to work. Perhaps if you would have come out to financially support this family as a means to stop riding the bike would have been a different gesture. Racial profiling is no justification and I hope next time when you pass on the judgement, just put yourself in their shoes and see how difficult it gets to survive in this world under given circumstances.

  • 16 years old. Driving. What!

She must not be having license. It is illegal. Nothing to praise here. She should not be doing this and taking law in her hands. She is risking lives of others on the road.
