Oppo’s onslaught in the mid-range market continues with the launch of the new A83 2018. In true Oppo fashion, the new phone focuses on photography while also being easy on the wallet.
Design and Display
The design of almost all recent smartphones has started to look the same, bar the name of the maker. However, it is still quite a good-looking phone, owing in part to the minimal bezel.
The display is an 18:9 panel of 5.7” size, however, the resolution is likely going to be just usable at HD+ (1440 x 720). The phone will be available in Gold and Black.
Internals and Storage
Under the hood, you get the Helio P23 octa-core processor with a Mali-G71 MP2 GPU. There are two RAM versions: 3 and 4 GB, alongside the 32 and 64 GB storage options.

What’s disappointing is seeing Android 7.1 Nougat still on a phone, even if it is mid-range, as we roll towards the mid of 2018.
There is a single-camera setup at the back with a 13 MP camera with LED Flash. Sorry, no fingerprint scanner, either.
There’s also an 8 MP camera on the front.
Battery and Price
Underneath, you’ll find a 3180 mAh battery, though, it misses out on fast-charging.
Pricing is set at Rs. 19,999 for the 3 GB version, while the 4 GB version will awkwardly cost around 10K (Rs. 29,899) more.
Again, while the 3 GB version might just make an impact (while facing stiff competition from the Redmi 5), the 4 GB version will face massive pressure from Snapdragon-powered dual-camera phones.
