Steam Will Let You Play Games from PC on your Phone Soon

Mobile gaming is looking to be the next big thing in the gaming world as even major companies, including Valve, are moving towards the smartphone market. Ubisoft has already partnered with Tencent to bring mobile games and now Valve is bringing game streaming to Android and iOS devices through its mobile Steam app.

The app, called Steam Link, will allow gamers to access their Steam library in mobile devices provided that the Steam host application, on your PC, is connected to the same network. It requires you to have at least a 5 GHz Wi-Fi connection between the router and your phone/laptop. Or better yet, you can simply connect the host to the router via an Ethernet cable.

Controller Support & Video Streaming

The good news is that the app will also support most gamepads including the Steam Controller so you can take your hardcore gaming session anywhere, as long as you are connected to the same network.

This is a big deal because earlier users had to rely on dedicated mobile versions of apps, such as Fortnite, to play on their smartphones away from their PC.

Fastest Cloud Solution Yet?

Steam also said that it will launch a Steam Video app to stream your video library over Wi-Fi – or LTE – to your Android or iOS devices. The gaming client has always allowed streaming between two systems connected to the same network, but this will be its first entry into the mini-screen territory.
