Prime Minister Announces Rs. 500 Million Grant For Sports Sector

For the development of sports infrastructure, training of athletes and to support federations, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has announced a special grant of Rs. 500 million.

A Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) senior official revealed that “PM announced the grant at the reception he extended in honor of Pakistan’s contingent which took part in the Commonwealth Games in Australia last month.”

He further shed light on Khaqan Abbasi’s remarks where he claimed that government alone cannot meet the high-demands of sports sector and that corporate sector should also engage in the process.

This is a much-needed step as Pakistan is a country which is filled with limitless talent. Being a sportsman in Pakistan does not warrant a secure — or even a realistic — career.

In contrast, developed nations always encourage their youth to invest more time in extracurricular activities.

To kick-start the program which rewards all the athletes who dedicate their lives to better the image of the country, PM awarded Rs. 5 million to wrestler Muhammad Inam, who recently won a Gold medal in Commonwealth Games.

Wrestlers Muhammad Bilal, Tayyab Raza and weightlifters Nooh Dastagir Butt, Talha Talib were also awarded Rs. 1 million for winning Bronze medals.

Furthermore, Riaz Pirzada, who is the federal minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC), briefed the PM about Pakistan’s achievements during his tenure.
