Rawalpindi Police is on high alert as a precautionary measure as the accountability court is likely to announce the final verdict on Avenfield apartments reference against Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz and Captain Safdar.
There will be increased patrols in some areas with an overall increase in the personnel deployed in the city to counter any retaliation if the verdict goes against the Sharif family.
Additional tiers of security have been installed in Rawalpindi, with the anti-riots squad called up for deployment in different parts of the city in addition to extra checkpoints and enhanced security at the entry/exit points. The police are also checking random vehicles in a bid to further tighten the security with the personnel ordered to take necessary measures to maintain peace in the city.
City Police Officer (CPO), Abbas Ahsan does not expect any strong reaction from the party workers or supporters.
We don’t expect any reaction from political workers but we are tightening security around sensitive installations and government buildings to ensure the safety of public lives and property.
The Police has orders to take strict action against anyone trying to disrupt the peace of the city.
Though we don’t expect any strong retaliation on the eve of the accountability court’s decision, we are taking all precautionary measures to maintain peace in the city.
All eyes are glued to the television screens as the accountability court is all set to make a historical decision. The decision may spark riots in different parts of the country.
