Information Ministry Forms Content Committee to Oversee Ads by Govt

The Ministry of Information, Broadcasting, National History and Literary Heritage has formed a watchdog ‘Content Committee’ on Tuesday on the directives of Prime Minister Imran Khan to look after the government advertisements on print and electronic media.

No advertisement will be published or aired without the approval of the newly formed committee, which will be headed by the Information Minister Fawad Chaudhary. The committee will also include Senator Faisal Javed, special assistant to Prime Minister Iftikhar Durrani and the Information Ministers of three provinces; Balochistan, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

It has been desired that no advertisements should be released to print or electronic media by the provincial or federal governments without prior approval of this committee.

Earlier, the Information Ministry had relaxed censorship rules at the national TV channel  PTV’s, paving the way for opposition party members to join talk shows as guests and added their representatives on the Board of Directors in a bid to give them a say in the state-run broadcaster’s affairs.
