Govt Formulating Policy for Promoting Overseas Employment of Pakistanis

The Ministry of Overseas Pakistani and Human Resources Development is in the process of formulating a policy for promoting overseas employment of Pakistanis titled as ‘National Emigration and Welfare Policy for Overseas Pakistanis’.

The ministry informed the Senate through a written reply in response to Senator Tanvir Khan’s query that at present the country has no formal policy for overseas employment of Pakistan.

However, this Ministry is in process of formulation of “National Emigration and Welfare Policy for Overseas Pakistanis,” the reply stated.

It added that the scope of the policy includes promotion of Overseas Employment, the welfare of overseas Pakistanis and their families; and reintegration of return migrants to Pakistan.

The minister said the initial draft of the policy has been prepared. After its finalisation and approval, the same will be implemented.

Development: (a) At present, there is no formal National Policy for Overseas Pakistanis. However, this Ministry is in process of formulation of “National Emigration and Welfare Policy for overseas Pakistanis.”

Regarding the increases made in the pension by the Employees Old-Age Benefits Institution during the last five years, the Minister informed the house that the pension of the EOBI beneficiaries have not been raised during last five years except in 2015 when the minimum pension was raised from Rs.3,600 to Rs.5,250.

However, the reply said, Finance Minister has announced 10 per cent increase for the EOBI pensioners during the supplementary budget speech to be funded by Finance Division.

The Board of Trustees of EOBI in its meeting held on 26-10-2018 has also recommended a further 10 per cent increase in EOBI pension, to be met out of EOBI own resources, he added.
