Maj. Gen. (Retd) Amir Azeem Bajwa — former Director General SCO — has been appointed the Member Technical at Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, while Dr. Khawar Saddique Khokhar is made the Member Compliance, we have confirmed with sources.

According to sources, the notification for the appointment of members has been issued, however, Chairmanship of Gen. Amir Bajwa isn’t notified as of yet.

But, as are the nroms, Gen. Bajwa is to be notified as the Chairman of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, the sources said.

“Member Technical is usually the chairman of the authority, and hence its only matter of time that the appointment is notified officially”, confirmed us a high level government official.

Gen. Amir Bajwa will replace Muhammad Naveed, originally the member finance, who had been Chairman of PTA on adhoc basis since November 13, 2017.

Dr. Khawar Khokhar, on the other hands, will fill the slot vacated by Mr. Abdul Samad.

According to the sources, 17 candidates were shortlisted and interviewed by a committee to fill both the slots.

    • Did any of the journalists question this imposition? Is not this job function and responsibility?

  • another retired army men posted to a prestigious position, what is happening with Pakistan? where is the merit ?

  • Bringing Niazi the stooge is paying dividends for the holy cows. For last 4 years this mafia has not let telcos activate their services in GB & AJK so that people are forced to buy pathetic SCO. Holy cows were pressing upon previous govt to give them 4G license for free all over the country but Govt did take stand. Niazi on the other hand has just paved the way.

    • My friend SCO was in fighting in PTA to get the commercial license and other all operators were against them to work in the whole country (as it is a Govt body), this chess is made to make SCO commercialize in few days in the whole country. you will see in the coming days.

      • Good… Finally Pakistan will be able to reduce dollars transferred abroad by the telecos… We need something similar as jio….

      • they were fighting with PTA to provide license and spectrum without pament of any fee or charges. Thats why other telcos were opposing this, the buy the spectrum, no issue, but its highly unlikely and they will be granted something free which cost others millions.

    • It hasn’t happened yet but here comes the all knowing comment. NS and Zardari were officially stooge especially NS who was raised by Zia and Gen Jillani but Patwaris always miss this because of selective amnesia :D

  • Nepotism scores again, it seems. What is going on in Naya Pakistan. Seems ‘Sifarish’ from high places filled this position. The Bajwa name and retired military status told the tale. Where is the ever active CJP on this? Is his clout and punch only for the little people, weak people?

Why not let the retired general enjoy his pension. Let others, qualified younger civilians get a start in life, have a chance at contributing to the best of their abilities. Let merit and competition be the criteria for each position. Develop a reserve of talent. Make a tech pool of expertise to draw from, instead of going again and again to the same stagnant pond of retired old men.

    • Nepotism how? Is the name Bajwa the problem or his military background? The Chairman NAB is an ex Justice but hey it’s okay since PMLN and PPP selected him so it’s somehow okay! Why was he selected on which merit?
At least 19 were interviewed and he got the post so what’s the problem?

      • Mr. Bajwa used both his military background and his last name to his advantage. All other 17 candidates are more qualified than him. There were talented candidates in the pool both from PTA and overseas who have worked for international Telecom tech companies, operators and regulators – they were all dropped due to one reason or other to have the slot for Bajwa – and he was selected by special Sifarish only….even though he his age is above the age limit requirement for this position (57 years)…

    • You seems to be a Patwari. You are a traitor. Your ‘certificate of Patriotism’ is cancelled with immediate effect. How dare you to challenge Generals or PTI?. You should be behind bars for this blasphemy.

    • Agree 100% with Zafar. ? Many overseas Pakistanis were fooled by Imran Khan’s promises that overseas Pakistanis were his biggest asset. He wanted them to send dollars and pounds back to Pakistan and join jobs in Pakistan for the betterment of the country. They are all dropped for this job because of their dual citizenship status. If dual citizens cannot work for jobs in Pakistan, then how can overseas Pakistanis return? PTI only wants overseas dollars – when it comes to jobs, then retired generals are considered more patriotic even they pass age limits…. No one knows what is clear government policy about dual citizens? We all know a certain percentage of bureaucrats and army officials in Pakistan are dual citizens and they still have their jobs. PTI should just (Insaf) policy that they have been preaching about…

    • I think we should think positive, we have to know first – how people of GB/AJ&K getting the services – complaints ratio? if they’re good then they must get license.

    • ex-DG SCO – peak of it’s professional extreme and it’s not confirmed yet. but i think he’s is very professional by administrative level and being head of signals – can do work well for the benefit of telecom sector.

  • Martial law is back. Soon every institute will be controlled by them. Imran Khan is just a civilian face of Generals.

    • Lol Digital Martial Law- but he was the head of signals, i suggest he understand telecom very well being ex-DG SCO.

      • @Asher Ahmed All over the world in developed countries, the young people are selected for IT and telecom jobs to keep up with the pace of modern world. Here a retired person who is more than 65 years old will run the primary Telecom foundation?. Also Suparco, NDC and other organizations have been taken over by generals.
This is sad state of affairs.

The aim is to give the maximum power to the group of generals that are controlling the country since 1947. They want to remain in power till death.

  • I think it is a good idea… The reason is all Telecom companies in Pakistan are foreign owned and they are sending foreign exchange back to their Homeland …. We need something like India has jio…. They have destroyed profits of all foreign owned or backed operators

  • What happened to merit? There were more talented candidates than Mr. Bajwa who have not been selected. During the last one year, PTA chairman interview occurred 3 times. Last two times, Mr. Bajwa was not even shortlisted for the interviews. How was he picked this time by same team for short listing even though he does not have required qualifications and is over aged?

  • Mr. Bajwa used both his military background and his last name to his advantage. All other 17 candidates are more qualified than him. There were talented candidates in the pool both from PTA and overseas who have worked for international regulators – they were all dropped due to one reason or another – and Mr. Bajwa was selected by special Sifarish ….even though he has passed age limits ….

  • Imran Khan wake up. We voted for you with our thumb prints, our feet, our voices. We sweated for you on D chowk (atleast I did). But, you are headed down a dark road Sir, one marred by deceit, duplicity, double-dealing, and crude bad faith.

“another retired army man posted to a prestigious position” – zaki

“Did any of the journalists question this imposition?” – zafar

“Many overseas Pakistanis were fooled by Imran Khan’s promises that overseas Pakistanis were his biggest asset” – javed

“where is the merit? – zaki

“Mr Bajwa used both his military background and his last name to his advantage. All other 17 candidates are more qualified than him” – jafar

“Another retired Fauji… cant they find a professional?” – junaid

“Bajwa was not even shortlisted for the interviews. How was he picked this time by same team for short listing even though he does not have required qualifications and is over aged?” – jafar

    > i don’t think i need to explain, the comments down here (especially from people who put their faith in Mr. Khan) tell their own story… BUT my hope and expectation from this MAN does not waiver. One can dream, i just hope its not a pipe-dream

  • I worked with respected Bajwa saahb in SCO as i am civilian, i see him very professional, hardworking, talented very kind hearted and always sincere to his work. When he joined SCO he worked 24 hr miss him. May Allah give him more success.
