PTA Extends Mobile Phone Verification Deadline to 15th January

As per directives issued by Federal Government regarding extension in the deadline for registration of mobile devices under Pakistan Telecommunication Authority’s Device Identification Registration Blocking System (DIRBS), all mobile devices which are already activated on cellular mobile networks within Pakistan by 15th January 2019 shall remain operational without service disruption.

Even non-compliant devices in operation prior to this date will be tied to these numbers and will remain operational till the useful life of the device.

PTA developed/established Device Identification Registration & Blocking System (DIRBS), in line with Telecom policy 2015, issued by Ministry of Information Technology & Telecom, section 9.6 with the aim to curtail the counterfeit mobile phone usage, discourage mobile phones theft and protect consumer interest.

Previously, PTA set the last date for registration of mobile phones using this system on 1st December. You were required to get your phone registered until then. Then from 31st December, the authority would start blocking unauthorized and unverified mobile phones. However, PTA has now delayed that to 15th January now.

All Pakistani mobile device users wishing to know the status of a device can send each 15 digit IMEI number via SMS to 8484. The status of the mobile device can also be checked via PTA website link DIRBS.PTA.gov.pk or by downloading DIRBS android mobile application. For further details: visit the PTA website.

  • clarification required: non compliant phone can be white-listed/Compliant by calling till 15th JAN 2019 or only blocking date has been extended whereas all non complaint phones will remain non complaint

  • Just Drama. 1st December was actual last date. you must have to pay huge tax, if you bring any phone after 1st Dec or have any phone, but not used before 1st December. Now you can register till 15th Jan by paying tax. i paid approx 12k with a lot of time wastage on Xiaomi Note 6 phone. cost was 20k PKR and Tax 12K. Mad policy makers.

  • How many times are they gonna extend the deadline. What a dumb decision by PTA. Take a decision and stand by it. Dont keep on extending the deadlines.

  • My phone’s IMEI has more than 15 digits. It is an HTC HD7. DIRBS say IMEI is invalid. What should I do?

      • Thanks for your response. I did that already whenn the 17 digit IMEI was not accepted and it said IMEI is valid.

But I want to know the reason/reference (why it works) if you can provide any. Thanks

      • Never mind. The last 2 digit are for Operator/Service Provider. Since my phone is “O2 UK” branded phone, the last 2 digits are for the Operator “O2 UK”
