The Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) has restored all taxes on mobile cards effective from Thursday, revoking former Chief Justice of Pakistan, Saqib Nisar’s judgment last year.
Earlier, the govt used to charge heavy taxes on prepaid cards, however, ex-CJP had directed them not to charge a single penny on mobile easy-load and credits.
The latest verdict will now mean that we will have to pay almost Rs. 40 on every 100 rupees to telcos on prepaid recharge.
The earlier decision had received plenty of appreciation from the masses, however, the latest verdict has sparked quite a lot of debate on social media.
Here’s what the people are saying:
A pro elites judgement by the Supreme Court to restore taxes on mobile phone usage with sheer disregard of the common man interests. This is sad.

Supreme Court has withdrawn former CJP Saqib Nisar order to suspend all taxes on mobile companies. Interestingly, State of Pakistan has faced more than Rs90 billion revenue loss due to ex- CJP Saqib Nisar's populous decision.
