England: 351/9 (50) — Joe Root 84 (73), Shaheen Afridi 82/4 (10)
Pakistan: 297 all out (46.5) — Sarfaraz Ahmed 97 (80), Chris Woakes 54/5 (10)
Man of the Match: Chris Woakes
It was a different day at Leeds, but the same result for England as the hosts completed a 4-0 series win over Sarfaraz XI on Sunday. Pakistan batters failed to chase the target of 352 as Chris Woakes ripped apart Pakistan’s batting line with a five-wicket haul.
England made the right call once again as they opted to bat first on a batting friendly wicket at Headingley. The English batsmen once again looked like posting a huge total as contributions from the top order put England well on course. Joe Root smashed a quick fire 84 while captain Eoin Morgan scored 76.
A comeback by Pakistani bowlers helped the hosts restrict England, however, a cameo by Tom Curran took the score past 350.
Pakistan’s batting presented a dismal look at the end of 3 overs as Fakhar Zaman, Abid Ali and Mohammad Hafeez were back in the hut at the team score of 6/3. After that, Babar Azam and Sarfaraz Ahmed took on the England bowlers as they scored 80 and 97 respectively.
However, some unlucky dismissals in the form of Babar’s run out and Sarfaraz’s stumping helped England make inroads. Chris Woakes ended up with figures of 5 for 54 in his 10 overs to bowl out the away side for 297, winning the man of the match award for his brilliant spell.
