Chief of Police Karachi, Ghulam Nabi Memon, has issued orders to fire policemen addicted to alcohol, opium, Gutka, and other chewing-tobacco products.
Assitant DIG Police, Junaid Ahmed, has circulated a letter to all DIGs, SSPs, and other department heads in this regard.
The letter has ordered officers to point out police officials in their respective departments that consume alcohol, opium, or any chewing-tobacco products.
The letter demands these officials should be served notices and terminated after independent inquiries.
The Establishment branch has constituted teams to conduct inspections of regional police departments.
Unit head shall be responsible if any of its officers found using the prohibited products.
The order has come after reports surfaced online that drug-peddlers in Karachi are operating under the supervision of corrupt police officers.
IG Sindh Syed Kaleem Imam had urged his subordinates to take strict action against such police officials and make an example out of them.
