Facebook Launches a Dating Service to Rival Tinder

Facebook has launched its own dating service to compete with Tinder. It seemed like the natural course of action for the social media giant, considering its massive userbase.

The platform has been named Facebook Dating and it will pair you with people with similar interests and preferences, similar to how it finds potential friends on the main site. The service is currently limited to the mobile app only.

How it Works

Users can sign-up by creating a dedicated profile completely different from their existing Facebook profiles. You need to make sure that you have the latest version of the Facebook app installed and you need to be at least 18 years old to sign up.

To reach out to someone, all you need to do is like and comment on someone’s post.

Unless you allow it to, Facebook Dating will not recommend any friends from your main Facebook account as potential dating partners. Furthermore, any activity on Facebook Dating will not be shared on your main Facebook profile.

Main Features

By the end of this year, Facebook Dating will let users connect and share their posts and stories from their Instagram and Facebook profiles.

Even though Facebook Dating will not recommend friends from existing Facebook profiles (unless allowed), if a user secretly likes someone from their existing friends’ list, they can add them to their Secret Crush List on Facebook Dating.

This would send a notification to the person that someone has added you to their Secret Crush List. If the other person also adds them to their own list, the app will match them.

Safety and Availability

Facebook Dating will come with a few safety features as well to avoid any untoward incident. It will let you report someone for harassment or block someone altogether.

Facebook Dating is currently available in the US and 19 other countries around the world. The dating platform will be launched in Europe next year.
