Qualcomm is Working on 5G Capable Snapdragon 6 and 7 Series Processors

The recent IFA 2019 event was chock full of announcements. Along with many companies showcasing their upcoming smartphones, Qualcomm went ahead to make some major announcements of its own. The company has unveiled its plans to bring 5G to more affordable devices in 2020.

Qualcomm plans to expand 5G compatibility beyond its flagship SoCs by integrating the technology into its mid-range 6 and 7 series chipsets for more affordable devices.

The company claims that these new SoCs will feature best in class performance, coverage, power efficiency, and support for all regions and frequency bands including the mmWave and sub-6 GHz spectrum, TDD and FDD modes, 5G multi-SIM, Dynamic Spectrum Sharing, and Standalone (SA) and non-standalone (NSA) network architectures.

The upcoming Snapdragon 7 series will be built on a 7nm process with integrated 5G. These new SoCs will also reportedly bring other flagship-tier features including the next-gen Qualcomm AI engine and Snapdragon Elite gaming features.

Notable smartphone makers like OPPO, Realme, Redmi, Vivo, Motorola, Nokia, and LG are already looking to integrate 5G into their mid-range devices with the upcoming Snapdragon 7 series.

The new Snapdragon 7 series of 5G capable chips is expected to be commercially available as early as Q4 2019. The Snapdragon 6 series, on the other hand, will bring the 5G mobile experience to even more users in the second half of 2020.
