Apple Watch Series 5 Has an Always On Display and All-Day Battery

Apple, alongside the iPhone 11 lineup, has also announced the latest iteration of its Apple Watch.

This bestselling fitness watch focuses on health, research, biometrics, and user fitness.

Design and Display

The fifth-generation Apple Watch still features the original’s design elements but adds new flavors and style variants.

The newly introduced Apple Watch Studio is the main highlight here. It allows users to mix and match any casing of their choice with available bands. Users are no longer limited to the pre-defined combinations.

As far as the casing is concerned, the Series 5 Watch features titanium, stainless steel, and 100% recycled 7000 series aluminum variants. The following colors are offered in each variant:

• Titanium: Space Black and Natural Silver
• Stainless Steel: Gold, Silver and Space Black
• Aluminum: Gold, Silver and Space Black

The Apple Watch Nike and Hermes lines are also getting new colors and textures.

Moving to the display, Apple has finally added an always-on option to the OLED watch face. According to the company, a number of advanced technologies like low-temperature polysilicon and oxide display (LTPO), an ultra-low power display driver, efficient power management integrated circuit and a new ambient light sensor work together to deliver this new feature.

Navigation and Emergency Calling

The new Watch comes with updated location features and a dedicated compass. On top of this, the updated maps and new positioning chip provide the latitude, longitude and current elevation which helps the user figure out which way they are facing on the map.

For the watch face, Apple has added a compass option which will be open to third-party applications as well.

Apart from this, Cupertino has also incorporated the ability to call any cellular Apple Watch around the world along with fall detection and warnings based on ECG readings. These emergency calls can be made regardless of where the device was originally purchased from or if the cellular plan has been activated.

Battery and Pricing

As usual, we don’t know the exact battery capacity, but Apple has claimed an all-day battery life i.e. 18 hours. Technically it is not all day but it lasts long enough. Considering that it’s getting 18 hours of battery life with an always-on display, we can’t really complain.

As for the pricing and availability, the 40mm GPS version starts at $399 and the GPS + Cellular version starts at $499. Both the models are available for pre-order and will be available for purchase by 20^th September.  The same goes for the Nike and Hermes lineup.
