Fujifilm Unveils 24 MP Mirrorless X-A7 Camera

Fujifilm’s mirrorless cameras are a common favorite of enthusiasts and Pros alike, thanks to the class-leading performance and features they offer. The company has, however, struggled with releasing a compelling entry-level mirror-less camera. The X-A5 was a good attempt but the inconsistent auto-focus put off many users.

Fujifilm has finally released a successor to the X-A5, dubbed as the X-A7. The entry-level camera comes with promising updates. As Fujifilm puts it:

The X-A7’s compact, lightweight form factor, outstanding image quality, and a multitude of new and enhanced features position it as an ideal and timely entry into Fujifilm’s popular family of X Series mirrorless cameras.

Design and Display

The Fujifilm X-A7 comes in a small and lightweight rangefinder body. The camera, along with the lens, only weighs 455 grams. Unlike its predecessor, it comes with a 360-degree rotating touch screen that can be used for selfies and vlogs. The entire menu can be accessed and adjusted using the display. The camera will be available in camel, green and navy (limited edition) colors.

Imaging capacity

The camera is built around Fujifilm’s latest 24.2-megapixel CMOS sensor that features 8.5x more phase-detect pixels as compared to the X-A5. The autofocus and facial detection are also faster, but the burst shooting remains the same i.e. 6 FPS.

As far as shooting videos is concerned, the camera supports 4K videos at 30 fps, which is an upgrade over the 15 fps video shooting featured by the X-A5. On the other hand, 1080p video recording is limited to 60 fps, a higher framerate option would have been ideal. The ISO ranges from 100 to 12,800, which can be expanded to ISO 25,600.

The camera also comes with a bright mode that applies effects like HDR to create bright and vibrant images, much like the modes we see in smartphones nowadays.

Pricing and Availability

The camera will be available for purchase in the US by the 24th of October and will cost $700 along with the lens kit (Fujinon XC 15-45mm f/3.5-5.6 OIZ PZ).
