Construction Starts On First Ever Cancer Hospital in Balochistan

Balochistan government has started construction of the first-ever cancer hospital in the province near Sheikh Zayed Hospital in Quetta.

Liaquat Shahwani, a spokesman for the Balochistan government, said that the project was started to provide a cancer treatment facility to the people.

He said that the government has already allocated Rs. 1 billion in the current Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) for the establishment of the cancer hospital. Furthermore, he added that the Federal government is also going to provide support in building this hospital.

To provide instant treatment to cancer patients, the development work of the hospital is being started at a rapid pace as the PC-1 has been approved.

As most of the patients in the province are being referred to different hospitals in the country, this cancer hospital in Quetta would be the first of its kind and will primarily focus on the diagnosis of the fatal disease.

Criticizing the previous governments for lack of improvement in the health sector, he said that dozens of people lost their lives as they did not have access to proper treatment nearby. He said that the present government led by Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan is focusing on the development of health infrastructure.

He said that Balochistan government is making efforts to extend health care facilities and has released Rs. 245 million to purchase medicine and Rs. 77 million for equipment in the hospitals.
